We rented 4388 Carolina Cove Way from Jackson Mountain Rentals for our 30th anniversary and left after one night. The property was severely misrepresented and was the worst vacation rental we have experienced. The access road is one vehicle wide, heavily overgrown, and extremely steep (about 19%). The listing only says “4WD Recommended for Winter,” which is inadequate. The cabin had numerous issues: an insecure front door knob, unlabeled/improperly labeled switches, and a loose refrigerator handle. The bathroom toilet was visibly dirty, the tub drain had residue, and a blanket had stains resembling blood. A loose bedroom door knob trapped us inside until we discovered an exit through another door. Another bathroom had a broken toilet-paper holder and a sink that would not drain without manually operating it underneath. Upstairs, a couch was torn, an empty beer bottle was left behind, a smoke detector appeared unsecured/nonfunctional, and windows were extremely dirty, including one that was cracked. The advertised “breathtaking scenic views” were nonexistent due to severely overgrown vegetation touching the cabin. We did not feel comfortable using the hot tub. Customer service apologized but refused any refund. We found a review reporting an HVAC failure and mold around the unit two months prior to our arrival, raising additional concerns about the unexplained odor and our health. This was not the “first-class” experience advertised and seriously marred our 30th anniversary.
