Hotel is undergoing renovation that has the entre area torn up. It was difficult to locate the parking lot which is not accessed from Ogden street. When I did find it, it was rather small and tight. Don't forget to ask the clerk at check-in for a pass to put in the windshield or it may get towed. No ice machines, you must go to the bar to get ice and then they used a plastic grocery bag (used) to line the bucket. In the early morning, bar was closed and I had to track someone down who had a key to get a refill. The electricity went out 4 or 5 times the night I stayed, once while I was in the elevator, but it was restored within less than a minute. Due to construction, water was scheduled to be off from 11PM to 6AM, this was a one-time event, however. The free dinner offer in December amounted to their standard $4.99 Prime Rib special, which was passable but more like Standard Rib rather than Select, Choice or Prime. Plenty to eat, though, with a baked potato and corn. I must have had one of the renovated rooms as it was a comfortable King with a shower, not a bath. No complaints about the room but I had a smoking for my cigar; don't know about the non-smoking rooms. All the staff was great. Clerk at check-in helped me resolve issues with the free dinner and the parking. The morning ice issue was handled with friendly and accommodating service. I was greeted by staff at every turn and enjoyed some time in the casino and at the bar. The Hotels.com web site said I would be charged a resort fee, but no mention of it was made at check-in and they did not even swipe my credit card. I was only traveling through, so I was satisfied with a very inexpensive rate that likely won't last after renovations are complete.

The rooms and casino are OK as long as you understand you are not at a "resort", but are after a cheap place to sleep. The price is excellent. My only serious complaint is that parking is completely inadequate. There simply is not enough parking spaces. I would not stay here again unless I was traveling without a car.

The Gold Spike is undergoing renovation and is being seriously upgraded. Service levels and comfort levels have increased markedly since my last stay here 4 years ago. Upside - The casino and lobby have been completely renovated and are bright and well lit. The staff are now very helpful and responsive. The renovated rooms have modern furnishings and the bath rooms have new fixtures. Downside - Parking lot is inadequate for hotel guests. While renovation is going on elevator service is slow. Surprises - Surrounding neighborhood not nearly as run down as I recall from previous visit.

This was a pretty crummy joint for years and they seem to be in the process of making it decent. But many of the rooms have not been refurbished yet and it SHOWS! Before we even got to the room, the hallway looked and smelled like something out of a slum housing project. Our room had a carpet with heavy stains and many other "rough edges". Many basics weren't there, like ice, any kind of pool or jacuzzi, even a TV remote was only available by special request (and two requests to the desk to get someone up to program it). Overall, I was embarrassed that I booked this hotel.

With the price of this hotel we were able to do alot more while we were in Vegas than if we payed more to be on the Strip. The drive was pretty inconvenient to get downtown but in some ways worth it. The room we stayed in was brand new, much nicer than we expected. It was not the Bellagio by any means but for the price it was quite literally fantastic.

Parking was very poor, not near enough space and very poorly identified. The little grill downstairs was a great value, not the best, but price was good and service was friendly. TV didn't work, construction was underway and the place was a bit of a mess because of this. Bed was barely OK and bathroom was in poor conditionm, but the price was good and value was OK for the price

They are remodeling, and put me in a terrible room on the fourth floor. I also asked for non-smoking and they put me in a smoking room. Hopefully things will improve once they'r finished remodeling. The parking lot was being worked on, also, and thus parking was inadequate.

I would probably stay there again if I was going to stay downtown, only if it was the absolute cheapest hotel in vegas. The one bright spot was the $5.99 prime rib dinner in the cafe. It was one of the biggest pieces of meat I have ever had. Served with baked potato and corn and was delicious. Downtown Vegas just has to many unsavory charactors hanging around.

Remodeling was in proces , but presented little inconvience . This is the lowest priced hotel in Downtown and maybe all of Vegas yet the accomadations were comfortable and in the 2 to 2 1/2 star range . Freemont Street is a block or two so you can get the whole Downtown Experience without being stuck in one big mega casino and without risking traffic tickets renting cars , etc.

The hotel is located in an unsafe area. The bathroom sink had shaved hair in it. It was like someone empty their razor in the sink. the manager said they were book so I couldn't move to a different room. They had the maid clean the bathroom. You could feel the springs in the mattress. there were holes in the walls of the hallway with insulation sticking out. Wallpaper was pealing away from the walls. The curtains were coming off the hooks. This is the worst hotel I have ever been in. I cancelled the rest of my stay. And then they charged me $37.50 for cancelling.

I got an awesome deal on the price of the hotel. Problem was they are remodeling so the room wasn't real bad, but the hallways smelled funky. The beds were hard, but the room was livable. Definatly a budget hotel, but once they finish the remodel it should be a nice looking hotel. And the BJ tables are great! Very nice dealers who make it a lot of fun

I could not believe that I found a hotel room in Las Vegas for such a low price. I felt the money that I paid for the room was indeed a good value. I was not expecting a high quality resort for the price and I received a decent place to sleep for a low price. The employees were very friendly to me. The hotel is doing rennovations. The cold water pressure was low in the bathroom sink. The toilet didn't flush well. The sink and shower did not drain quickly. The hotel restaurant was not of the best quality but it was convenient. It did offer Prime Rib dinner for a really low price. In general, if you are looking for a cheap place to stay and aren't overly picky, this hotel will fit the bill. The casino had some nice slot and poker machines, if that is the type of gambling that you like. It is a small casino but in walking distance of plenty of others, as it is in walking distance to the Fremont Experience (one block away) and also in walking distance from a Walgreen Pharmacy (if you forget incidentals). I would not recommend this hotel, however if you have high standards. You do get what you pay for. It worked well for my brother and me. We stayed without regret for four nights.

I was wary of staying here, but it wasn't bad at all. Room was decent, although a bit small. No remote for TV, like some others said. Biggest problem was finding parking on some nights--other nights wasn't a problem at all. 5 minute wait opened up parking spot. One black from Freemont St. was nice. Also close to bus station and city hall. No additional facilities fee, despite what the info page said. What I paid online was total price. They didn't even ask for credit card upon check-in. For the price, I would stay again.

As per the reviews and site before we purchased our stay at the Spike, they are remodeling and enlarging the hotel. It's true most of the rooms are outdated and in need of repair badly, but they are dirt cheap. Our room was clean and our house keeper Lenore was fantastic! The casino has been remodeled but the only thing we really didn't care for was all money is handpay,so you have to wait to be paid in person, even for a nickle.Be sure to say hi to Eugene on the floor he is also a Super nice guy! The people there make up for the outdated rooms and construction noise.Super service. The food in the newly remodeled grill is great and cheap! The waiter Ray is Superb. They also opened the new bar area on Superbowl Sunday or about then.I've been coming to the Gold spike for years and I love it here.We will be going back for sure.

Our stay was excellent. The beds were comfortable. The maid service is immediate upon your request and they are very friendly and courteous. We know the hotel is being renovated, but for the price and location it was excellent for our needs. Their restaurant the Golden Grill serves a very reasonable and large breakfast with a large amount of ham and eggs with potatoes and toast for only $3.99. Their prime rib special is outstanding for a 12 ounce cut only $4.95. This value is the cheapest in Las Vegas. The service at the restaurant is outstanding as well as the food. I would say this hotel is one of the best values in town.

I wasn't expecting anything great when I made the booking, but I wasn't complaining as the price I paid was a steal. But after getting there, a couple of things made me have second thoughts. 1. The hotel is still being renovated, the work is still far from over. 2. I booked two rooms, one was good but the other had the stench of smoke and evidence (on the carpet and bedding) that the room was a smoking-room. We even got a room change, but still no luck. My only complain is they should have provided us what was promised. A non-smoking room is not the same as a room which is 'converted' to a non-smoking room recently. The carpet and curtains are clear give aways as the smoke/smell stays after the smoker has left.

The room was yet under construction, and as a result, the floors and carpets unkempt, there was a sheetrock dust-storm in the room which made me sneeze all night, and the overall appearance was quite disappointing.
