Nice hotel right on the harbor. Was fun to take my son down to the rocks and show him all the boats going in and out to sea. There is also an attached nightclub that has good music in the evenings, and my understanding is they do concerts on a main stage throughout the year. Rooms were clean and very well presented. This Hotel is located on the beautiful quaint Shelter Island Area. The hotel is a two story complex without elevators. When we arrived there was a food tray at our door entrance with fruit and garbage strewn around. There was garbage in front of other rooms on the landing. I called the front desk to have it removed. great location, right by the bay and harbor, wonderful pool area and hot tub, you feel like you are in Hawaii for a while. Bar has daily music program and happy hour. Great food there. We had a wonderful time listening to Blues Band. Can highly recommend a stay at the hotel. Parking right infront of your door.

We booked this hotel because we got a great rate in a good location. It turned out to be very nice--the staff was friendly and extremely responsive. Our room was quiet and the bed was very comfortable. I rated the condition and comfort of the hotel "4" instead of 5 only because the room was a little too dark for us--a ceiling fixture, or a couple of […] brighter bulbs in the lamps would have easily resolved this issue. (We never requested brighter lights--I suspect the hotel would have provided them based on how well they responded to other requests we made). We had a minor maintenance problem in our room--a problem with the refrigerator. The staff responded quickly and very professionally. The problem was resolved within 15 minutes. I've stayed in a lot of places in San Diego and Humphrey's is now in my top 3 favorites. The grounds are beautiful, the pool and hot tub are nice and big and clean, the room was very well kept and quiet, and the sourrounding area is perfect Southern California. Not to mention the service was great as my family was upgraded to a bigger room at no charge […] and given free parking. We knew we wanted a special night stay on either Shelter Island or in Mission Bay. We opted for Shelter Island due to the proximity to the airport. After scanning reviews of other places on Shelter Island, this one had a comparable high rating and seemed to have mastered the check-in experience. We couldn't have been happier with our decision! The check-in […] experience was timely and we were offered our choice of upgrading to 2 Queens tropical (pool) view or our original request of 1 King facing the bay (parking lot). We chose tropical! FYI, all properties with a Bay view on Sheter Island face the parking lots by nature of the road system on Sheter Island. We walked the entire property, including the beautiful pool and hot pool area. The fitness center is tiny, but has good equipment and a view of the marina instead of a wall. Humphrey's bar's happy hour is a sweet deal and guests get free cover into the nightly show. Humphrey's restaurant and wait staff made our evening. The wine selection was outstanding as was the 3 course meal we enjoyed because the chef extended Restaurant Week. This is the best property on the island, in my opinion. I run, and it's very convenient for hill workouts toward Pt. Loma, as well as a flat workout around the Island or along the oceanfront toward Harbor Island. Leia mais

We stayed here four nights over New Year's. Our room was on the bottom floor of Building A in a junior suite, the closest building to Humphrey's Lounge and Restaurant. We had requested the second floor, but we got a nice patio facing the harbor and a corner unit, so we didn't feel a need to complain at first. Unfortunately, we did have some problems. […] The heat wasn't working, but the maintenance guy had fixed it a half hour after we called the front desk. Our toilet never worked properly, it was quite a nuisance, needing several flushes. The walls are really thin, so we could hear the people next door and all the people coming in and out of our building. But the worst part was the three children running around on the floor above us. The front desk agreed to speak to them, but it didn't seem to help. Some guests are clueless. We had a lovely patio and a nice bar area/kitchenette that made the stay much nicer. This place is needs a reno, but it was clean and comfortable. The best part was walking just a few steps to the Humphrey's Lounge, we dropped in there three evenings in a row. The bands there were much better than average, it is a nice but casual place, and happy hour is a really good deal. I left my purse in the lounge one evening (after only one beer!), and someone actually was kind enough to turn it in. It was locked up for safekeeping with the manager the next day when we went to ask about it. Says a lot about the people frequenting the lounge. this hotel is a perfect hotel if you're looking for a quick getaway. the grounds and location are beautiful. Lots of trees and being that your near the water it feels almost like your in a tropical location. The room was pretty big and also came with a microwave and fridge which was convenient for leftovers from dinner that night. they had a good restaurant […] and bar on site as well as free bike rentals for 2 hours during the day. you could check in and never leave and have everything you need on site to entertain yourself and keep occupied. great hotel and staff! would recommend this place to everyone i know. We stayed at the Humprey's over Christmas vaca and it was awesome! The view is amazing and the surrounding area beautiful.

We stayed at this hotel New Years Eve, which we understood would be noisy and active...well the room next to our was having a catered party with approx. 30+ guests, totally in non-compliance with the maximum occupancy supposedly enforced by the hotel. We (and multiple other guests staying near said room) called around 11 to request that they at least […] turn the music down, but management did NOTHING until about 2 am. Parties of this size should not be allowed to inhabit only one room, and for the $$$$ price tag, we should of been equally accomodated. Will never stay here again. Leia mais

The price was right and the location is great. They have remodeled the rooms in the last year which has added to the overall stay.

Best service ever. We had a business meeting with a lot of special requests and they took care of everything with a smile. Will schedule our meeting here next year.

The review on this and other sites led me to expect a cute kitschy resort. What I found was an outdated mediocre motel. I wouldn't have been as disappointed if the reviews hadn't seemed so good. The front desk staff is unhelpful and border on rude. A tropical view room got me a view of the pool. Nothing tropical about that.

walk across the street and sit by the water or a block up the street and catch the bus, this hotel is a super location. the tropical setting is serene.

When attending events at SDYC, this hotel is convenient and really nice! Upstairs rooms are better for sound attenuation, hewever. Food in the restaurant was FABULOUS!

What a great place to stay, nice people, great location , places to eat and drink near by. Would definitely stay there again!

The hotel clerk was not eager to give me a room w/ a tropical view even though I had paid it. I still didn't get it after much discussion. The bed had a plastic sheet protector between the sheet and mattress. I couldn't decide if I was thankful (perhaps the mattress was that bad) or insulted that I might pee in my sleep. love the pool, fish ponds, and the people

Humphreys is a well known venue for outdoor concerts and their location on Shelter Island is an ideal spot for excellent views of the San Diego skyline without the crowds. It is off the beaten path, no freeways or busy 6-lane roads nearby, and although only 3 miles from the airport, it is nowhere near the flight path. A great place to watch the ships […] or military aircraft at North Island across the bay (loads of fun for little boys). Opt for a bay view and enjoy the fantastic sunrise and surreal moon rise directly over the skyline. Noise from aircraft is a bit higher than some places in San Diego, but it is quiet compared to hotels right on one of the many congested freeways, and watching the occasional massive C5 Galaxy transport come in for landing is well worth it! The airport shuttle is convenient (unless you have an early morning departure), the driver and other staff very friendly, and the facilities very clean. Our ceiling fan was not working and a note left for housekeeping was all it took to have it working upon our return. Heat and AC worked just fine. Again, it is not walking distance to downtown venues or attractions but take a bus or short cab ride, or rent a car (an essential to get around San Diego IMO). Parking is a reasonable $10 per night when compared to $30-$40 per night at downtown hotels. They have free wireless as well, almost impossible to find downtown. Don't even bother with Mission Valley hotels...freeway noise, horrible smells, and traffic abound. The only thing to watch for at this hotel is some of the rooms at the north-west end...they are across the street from yacht dry-dock facilities where daytime work can result in some unpleasant odors if the wind is out of the north. Still, it's far better than most deafening freeway-view hotels! Do yourself a favor and walk the Shelter Island loop while here. Watch for harbor seals, aircraft carriers, coast guard choppers, pelicans, cormorants, and boats of every shape and size. There are at Leia mais

I live in Southern California but wanted to get away for a few days. By researching deals and ratings, I found Humphreys and there was a really good 48 hour sale going on. I booked from this site and got 70% off, so keep that in mind here. The reviews were pretty respectable so I settled on it. Check in was really smooth, and the front desk was very […] helpful. They gave a map so that we could easily find our room, they gave us a menu so we could see some of the dishes that their restaurant offered (Which was good so that I could see if it was worth going there since I don't like seafood), and we heard recommendations being made as to other things we should do whilst there. After reading reviews from others at different hotels, I was relieved that I didn't have to prove that I had paid for the room or anything (although I had the paperwork all ready to go just in case). The place itself was not very far from everything, and the view of the marina was absolutely beautiful. We didn't see any of the concerts by the bay while we were there but the area was big and hopefully we'll do that next time. Parking: We found the room, and on a Wednesday we had no problem parking near our room at all (Parking is an extra ten dollars a night). Parking did get a bit crazy by Thursday night and Friday, so that's when you'll want to get back a bit early (although the walk isn't far at all it's just less convenient when you have to check out in the morning). The Grounds: The grounds are very nice, with one exception being the area Caution-stripped out but that didn't bother me. I felt really safe while I was here. We were able to walk the grounds at night and we didn't feel nervous at all. We saw other people but there were no rowdy and loud voices, suspicious activity or anything like that. The only time there was a good amount of noise was in the morning because people were waking up and whatnot. I was very pleased with my recent stay at Humphrey's. The service was great, the room was nice and clean, even better than I had anticipated. I would highly recommend this hotel. I can't wait to return. Also, the area was very nice with the ocean, the boats, the weather. I only wish I could have stayed longer.

My wife and I stayed there to celebrate our sixteenth wedding anniversary. The front desk person was very helpful. The bed was comfortable. We had a small patio area that was landscaped with plants to give it a tropical feel. Our room was quiet, we didn't hear any noise coming from any of the guest rooms next door or above us. Location is very nice, the guess service is wonderful as well. They are not hesitate to tell you whatever you ask them. But the bed is sucks, my back was so hurt after 2 days staying as well as my boyfriend. Nice hotel. Clean room although it smells like febreeze covered some older smell. In other words, not a clean fresh smell in the room. The room is nice and surrounding is very nice with ocean view.You can here doors slamming late at night from people coming and leaving their rooms. Had a good time - close to everything. Nice pool, hot tub and free bikes to ride. Walk to several nice resturants. Went lobster hooping - you need to try it it is a blast, H&M fishing - walk there to.

Older hotel with charm, but also some problems. No AC available in our room, and it was hot and stuffy!. "Water view" is a view of two parking lots with water in the distance, and noisy! Three adults staying in the room and they provided cups for two, and when we asked for a third, "they were not available". Better hotel next door!

We stayed here from 12/25-12/28. This is a great hotel in a nice location. It is close to: 1. Ocean beach, 2. Point Loma 3. Old town and many other attractions. The room was very clean and we had a great time. we would stay there again..

We really enjoyed our stay. The Updated room was fantastic, the Pool and hot tub clean and surrounded by a beautiful park, and the restaurant was very good and affordable. The receptionist was knowledgable and very very helpful. We will be back.

We enjoyed our stayed. We had a very large room with a kitchen. There was a nice pool area that didn't seem to be very busy, so at times we had the pool and hot tub all to ourselves. We felt this was a great location. It is close to the airport, and seemed to be close to things we wanted to do in San Diego. I am a frequent traveler and was very disappointed in this hotel. The mattress was hard as concrete and the noise outside the room was easily heard. This is an old motel style hotel with outside access to each room. The stairs and external buildings are poorly maintained though the rooms have been nicely renovated.
