Positives: Clean room The Wharf, but couldn't swing a cat, extremely small. Early arrival before 3 pm, and told by Bar person no check in before that. No safe space to leave our small amount of luggage during that period. Experience on exploring and sitting in garden ......very old rickety tables-chairs in lower garden, pigeon/bird poo on most tables. Decided that we would eat at places such as The Lock Inn, The Canal inn, The Fig and The Bolthole for both breakfasts and evening meals, much mire amenable in both value for money and surroundings. Sadly The Barge Inn did not live up to our expectation as described on websites we viewed, even menu was totally different when shown on arrival. Of note, can we suggest staff are given some hospitality training in customer care and to help promote what could be a beautiful Inn, as on a perfect site regarding setting, right by canal.

the Barge is a pub with accomodation in a very good location, about 10 minutes walk from the town centre. Although the staff are welcoming and the room was clean, the overall appearance of the pub is that it is shabby and run down. The carpet on the staircase leading to the bedrooms was grubby and had a large hole in it. outside the garden furniture has seen better days and there is a canopy which has come adrift from its fixings and been lashed to the outside bar. However, the draught beer was well kept and tasted brilliant!

Beautiful room looking out into the garden, decorated tastefully absolutely spotless. Fantastic shower room and soft towels. I couldn't fault it, wonderful value for money.

The room was far to small more like a storage cupboard. Staff friendly. Food very good.

The room was tiny. It was also incredibly noisy. The bed was uncomfortable and leaned to one side. I couldn’t get the TV to work. The food was average at best.

Room was extremely small - no room for suitcases or bags. Midgies were an issue and had to close window - being so small the room was super stuffy. A fan was available which helped a little. If stairs are an issue for you - find somewhere else. Okay for a quick one night stop but wouldn’t recommend for any longer. Dinner (lamb) was amazing - highly recommend the food.

the room was very very small (i had to put my small suitcase on the bed to open it up and then in front of the door at night as no space around the bed. the room had a strong smell of moth balls. the window was painted open so couldnt be closed to shut out the noise from a generator outside in the night and then rubbish pick up in the morning.

Disappointing

Room on the cool side due to window wide open when we entered. No cups and Coffee Machine could not use. One bottle of Water in a double Bedroom. We asked for heater in room but never got one. Carpet on corridor and Staircase very dirty. Food was very good.

This pub has a parking system that apparently is designed as some sort of fraud. Upon checking in, one must register their vehicle on a self service computer, which despite several attempts was not working. We then have vehicle details to staff who assured us they would enter it. We were staying at the hotel! A few weeks later I received a charge on my credit card for £90, yes £90! This was more than we paid for the room. I appealed this charge on the clear basis that we were staying at the hotel and there is very clear evidence of this but after 2 weeks I get a clearly bog standard response saying appeal refused, I obviously didn’t see the signs. It is clear that they didn’t even bother to read my appeal and that this is a rip off. Avoid this place, now I see why we were the only ones there.

This was exactly what we were looking for, we needed a bed for the night as had met friends for dinner and drinks while they were on a canal boat holiday. We had to leave early the next morning to get back for work. It was clean and tidy. We wouldn’t stay for a long stay but for the one night it was good. Staff were very nice, friendly and welcoming.

Newly decorated/refurbished with a nice bathroom & comfy bed but it was really tiny and I had a view of the bins. Have to enter via the pub which smelled and was not inviting. The exterior door just below my room didn't close, let alone lock. The stair carpet and hallway chair were stained. The wifi is very very poor so I had no internet access, and no cell access either. Staff told me this is because it's a listed building and because of the rainy (but not windy) weather. My cell (vodafone) also didn't operate inside, so I was isolated and couldn't do as I had planned. I cancelled my 2nd night which they refused to refund.

Good place for a stop over and a bite to eat

Plenty of parking on arrival, nice pub with room upstairs. Check in was easy and hassle free, room was very small but expected from reading previous reviews. Very smart and tidy though with great shower. Mattress a little unforgettable. Poor wifi signal. Pub/restaurant service eas excellent menu was very creative with plenty to choose from. Little disappointed with the quantity of the meat but overall was good. Breakfast started at 8:30 and was the best ive had in a long time. Id stay again as a stop over but due to the room size it would get quite anoying.

The room was small and everything was very old and worn. Bed was so squeaky that we woke up every time one of us turned. There was a rat in the restaurant area running in from the kitchen.
