Under renovations, carpet in room was stained and shower drained slow. The bed was very comfortable. Staff was outstanding, help with directions around the city as well get our bags to and from our room. Location was ok, an hour walk to the Cathedral but the subway is also just down the street. Great service!

The hotel is built inside a former industrial space. The layout of the room was interesting, but impractical. The desk space and bathtub are located together in the upstairs loft. There is nowhere to sit in the bed space. The high loft ceiling meant that it took a very long time to try to cool the room with the air conditioner. There was also a nightclub playing loud music in the same former industrial building.

I stayed three nights in Hotel Black Cologne. The hotel is located in Ehrenfeld, which for those who don't know the Cologne area, is quite a way away from Cologne centre. The hotel is striking and the main lobby is pretty and enticing in the all black manner. The corridors are long and sleek. My room was however none of the above adjectives. It seemed as if the room was in the middle of undergoing a restoration; the walls didn't match, there was visible piping coming out of the bathroom ceiling and a smell of stagnant water was constantly unpleasant. The bath felt dirty and paint was coming off in flakes from the walls. The room door handle kept getting stuck too making it even difficult to escape. The room was unbelievably noisy with the studio above. The bed was despite this very comfortable and the staff very pleasant.

Let me start by saying that the hotel is beautiful and it does look as good as the pictures, but that’s about it. We stayed for 5 days so we had plenty of time to see through the facade, the hotel is a industrial building that has been converted into 14 rooms, the first room was supposed to have air conditioning but the brand new unit didn’t work so we spent this first night in a hot humid room unable to sleep. The hotel was fully booked so we couldn’t change rooms. You’d think you could open a window to let in the 60 degree air from the outside to cool the room down a little but the rooms windows opened to the inside of the building that was just as hot. After speaking to the manager he said he would move us to a room with air conditioning that worked for the remainder of our stay. He did give us free coffee and a few coke’s from the mini bar for the inconvenience. We left for the day and returned to our new room, the new room didn’t have air conditioning but it did have two windows that opened to the parking/construction area next to the building so the room was cooler but with the windows open the noise never stopped! A few hours after we laid down to get some rest after a night of no sleep we heard drums playing, come to find out the hotel rents the basement out to bands for practice. The studio is connected to the hotel just outside the windows of the room. So for the next four days and nights we got to listen to the band practice for hours on end. Don’t stay here!

This hotel was just a 20 minute walk from the workshop I was attending and the rooms very clean. It was my first time in Cologne and the staff were very friendly, even providing a hand-drawn map (in English) to my location. However, on the last night of my stay, my Ipad was stolen from the room. The staff was very helpful with notifying the police and switching me to another room, but this obviously left a very sour ending to my stay there. Despite this, I think this is a very nice, cozy hotel.

Wir waren dort im Hotel alles war super bis der Mann von der Rezeption gekommen ist und uns unterstellt das wir geraucht hätten im Zimmer was nicht der Wahrheit entspricht wurden am Ende raus geschmissen und haben unsere Geld fürs Zimmer nicht zurück bekommen also Kaution etc. echt nicht normal

Wir waren für 1 Nacht im Hotel Es war sauer, kein Gestank (da das oft in den Bewertungen zu lesen war) Unser Aufenthalt war sehr angenehm. Kommen gerne wieder .
