Our suspicions were aroused when we couldn't find the hotel and the telephone number on Hotels.com didn't connect. Upon finally finding it, the guy at reception was genuinely extremely helpful, including dealing with our double booked room and then reallocating us. The bed was also quite comfortably. Unfortunately, this is where the positives end.
The hotel corridors stunk of cigarettes from where the smell of the smokers outside the main entrance was being blown in. There was also a VERY strong smell of weed throughout the upper levels, presumably from somebody smoking the stuff within the building.
The bed was a separated divan base with the wheels split. The room was generally grimey and needed a good clean.
The icing on the cake was faeces. This was not only on one of the toilet rolls, but as my partner found out, on one of the "clean" towels which were left on the bed for us to use. This is totally unacceptable, god knows what room service were thinking - or doing - to leave it in this condition. They were clearly not doing a thorough job and were recycling dirty laundry.
I had to insert my contract lenses in a local McDonald's as it was, quite frankly, considerably cleaner than this grunge pit. This is also where we had breakfast, as we clearly weren't going to risk the hotel food we'd already payed for given the state of everything else there.
We couldn't report these problems as we became aware at 10pm - reception closed at 9pm and was closed when we left.
