Room in Annexe, perfectly adequate for my needs (2 night stopover visiting family). Very good price. Really enjoyed breakfast on the Sunday morning. Lovely friendly staff. Shame no real ale in the bar. Car park was a little crazy when I arrived (Saturday afternoon) - but there is a large public car park next door that is pretty cheap for an overnight stay). Would definitely stay again.

The staff absolutely make this hotel, they are so lovely. Friendly and welcoming when you arrive, very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Reception, young lady, professional, courteous and a positive attitude. The kitchen and waiting staff are very pleasant and accommodating with our dietary allergy. I think there have been some upgrades to the decor since we last stayed and it’s a nice welcoming place to stay. We will stay again. Thank you to all the staff.

This is a reasonably priced hotel 5 mins walk from the town centre with shops cafes and restaurants. The staff were really lovely and helpful, rooms are basic but have everything you need, the shower was powerful and water always hot, bed really comfy, road a little noisy but you have to expect that with the close proximity to the town, overall a great experience would definitely stay there again

Although the hotel would benefit from some updating it was really clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had breakfast and an evening meal plus bar drinks and it was extremely good value for money. The meals were all home cooked and delicious.

We were pretty disappointed with this stay. Having paid over more than basic for a 'deluxe' room we were surprised with the dingy, undecorated room with a very dated, less than clean bathroom. It did not look remotely like the pictures advertising it. The bed was clean at least but our stay was also marred by an extremely loud wedding which went on until the wee sma hours - not just indoors but screaming in the carpark till very late. We don't feel it's fair for hotels to take normal bookings when they have big events on - all we wanted was a quiet sleep when driving a long way. The saving grace was a nice bar meal served by really personable waiting staff.

The breakfast was fresh. The car park felt safe. The room was clean. One comment, the heating was off and the room felt cool but otherwise we were very happy with our overnight stay. Would recommend to others who are looking for accommodation in Newcastle under Lyme.

We paid around £60 for a standard double room at the Borough Arms. I wasn’t expecting luxury, but I did expect a warm room, hot water and basic cleanliness. The bathroom radiator didn’t work, and the bedroom radiator barely gave off any heat. We spent a very cold, uncomfortable night. The next morning, the shower water was only lukewarm, so I had to rush through it. When my partner raised this with reception, he was offered a kettle and a bucket! I appreciate they were trying to help, but that’s hardly a safe or reasonable solution. The room was also badly in need of attention. Bathroom fittings were cracked or worn, previous repairs looked untidy, the chair was visibly stained and the tea tray appeared to have marks left by previous guests. To be fair, the bed was comfortable, the linen was fresh and the staff were genuinely lovely. They offered another room, which my partner viewed and found to be of a much higher standard. That made it even harder to understand why our original room was being sold. I emailed management with photographs after our stay and followed up, but four days later I still haven’t received an acknowledgement. Dated décor doesn’t bother me. A cold room, inadequate hot water and poor upkeep do. Really disappointing, especially when the staff themselves were so pleasant.

Having previously stayed at this hotel and had a not so great stay we decided to give it a go again as we should support local amenities. The room we were in was lovely, also beautifully clean, however, the plug socket at the side of the bed did not work at all. Bed was extremely comfortable also. The tv lacked WiFi so was not able to enjoy usual channels. Like I say the hotel itself is lovely. However this time we decided to have breakfast, as were greeted at the beginning and told to sit and help to juice and cereal. The lady came took our order and then brought over toast, I have to say though the breakfast was not great at all the mushrooms were tinned and not cooked properly the beans tasted of cleaner. I wished to order more toast however after the breakfast was delivered we didnt see another member of staff not even to ask if food was ok. They continued to carry on chatting in the kitchen (only 2 tables having breakfast so not busy) and we waited over 10 mins and still noone arrived so I left my breakfast and left without some extra toast. Very disappointed at 10.50 each. The fella on reception however who I spoke to and told about it was lovely and friendly and a credit to the hotel. But it might as well be do it yourself for breakfast as you dont see anyone.
