The spot is amazing, the rain shower kinda sucks but it grows on you. The area is definitely lovely and full of things to do, lots of bar fights I guess but the decision to include ear plugs is lowkey a tier

The staff was very attentive and helpful. Always checking to see if anything else was needed for our stay. There was an issue with the elevator and it was taken care of immediately. The room was clean. It’s an older hotel but kept clean. There are plenty of places to eat around the downtown. There is public transportation near by and easy to use.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had a lovely and extremely affordable two-night stay here! The location is unbeatable and within walking distance of everything downtown. The parking garage just a block away was convenient. The building itself is full of fascinating history, and we loved learning about its past through the timeline on the ground floor. We’ve been back at home for days, but we’re still talking about the history of the Keating Hotel. Makes for a crazy story to tell when you get home! Our room was very clean, the bed was comfortable, and the shower was AMAZING. It's clear the new owners are thoughtfully updating the property while preserving its historic character. There is some visible wear and tear, but for the price, it was absolutely worth it. The staff was incredibly kind and even took our bags up for us while we explored the city. We felt safe overall, especially with the deadbolt on the room door. Our door code was a little too predictable for my liking, however. Most of all, we enjoyed supporting a small business with owners who clearly care about preserving this unique piece of San Diego history. The hotel has so much potential, and we're excited to see what they do with it. We'd definitely stay again!

We stayed here for two nights when we came into town for a concert. The good: - super convenient location, walking distance to so much! - Lots of restaurants nearby - SUPER friendly & attentive staff, very accommodating & helpful - felt super safe & secure - the hotel common areas and rooms all seemed very clean - the aesthetic is not boring, kind of a cool old skool vibe with an industrial feel. Lots of big windows. - huge shower What I would change - - I wish that the bedding was nicer. They don't use fitted sheets, so the bed doesn't stay made very well. Hotel beds & bedding really give me the ick. The ONLY thing that I want to touch me while I'm sleeping are the sheets, which I assume get laundered regularly. I don't want to touch the duvet, the mattress pad, the actual mattress or the actual pillows. Because of the flat sheet situation here, the mattress just wouldn't stay covered and I slept like crap. Also, the sheets are pretty itchy, I'm pretty sure they're not great cotton sheets. The bedding is literally the only reason I didn't give five stars. The hotel is not luxurious and it's right in Gaslamp, so it's also not quiet. The building is old, but the wide staircase with the plush burgundy carpet is a cool retro vibe. I'd stay here again... and likely bring my own set of king size sheets.

I booked this as the only hotel available during comic con weekend. For the premium price I paid, the only upside was the proximity of the location. However, everything else was so disappointing. Possibly one of the worst hotels I've stayed in. Incoming all bad things to consider: It seems like a $30 renovation done half-hearted and half-a$$ed. The floors in the room are a terrible epoxy and seems like they can never be cleaned properly. I never took my shoes off. I avoided taking a shower because I didn't want to be barefoot at all in this room. The pillow cases smelled like the sheets had been sitting in old water too long after a wash. The lights in the bathroom were partially working and the lighting on the mirror was peeling. There was also an odd mirror on the ceiling above the sinks which was partially falling off the ceiling which seemed dangerous and creepy. No staff at the desk after like 6pm until the next morning. Good new bad news : You're right on a busy street so you can easily walk down and go to several bars and restaurants and the convention center is only a 7 minute walk. You're also right above busy loud bars and clubs during the night so if you're a light sleeper I do not recommend this place. TLDR: shabby can't-be-cleaned-properly-wanna-be industrial-modern-"boutique hotel" that offers no amenities but is in a "good location" sorry not sorry. will not be back. too much money spent for a room that did not live up to standards let alone expectations.

The location of this hotel is excellent, but the rooms are subpar and the management style is a little strange. Most notably it wasn’t as secure as I’d like. My room had a nice bed, but everything else was very spartan, with an open shower design in one corner and concrete floors. Moreover the AC unit (I think) constantly dripped into the shower enclosure while running. It seems they retrofitted much older rooms into something workable — that’s basically what you get. Management was actively texting about the quality of the stay - no problem there - but when I did not return a text about check-out time (assuming the default of 11am as stated in their messaging), they came and knocked on my door around 3pm to ask what time I’d be checking out. This struck me as unnecessary and a bit invasive. Biggest complaint is probably security. The front door of the hotel is a 4 digit code, as are the rooms. There are rarely active staff, especially at night, so while quiet it also felt a little dicey. Lastly, while my door locked fine, there was plenty of space if I pushed on the locked door — definitely enough to insert a prybar, for example.

This place has a perfect location, super helpful and kind staff, and spacious room combined with a really good price! All the check-in and out process was done online, they communicated well through WhatsApp and email, and even checked on us every day in case we needed anything. The room is huge, although having the shower in the room, and restroom with not fully closing door might not be for everyone 😉 If you are looking for easy going place to stay in the middle of downtown, that’s your place!
