Rooms dated, shabby and small. Decor needs refreshing, furniture is old damaged and worn, windows filthy and frames rotten. Bathrooms particularly shabby and hazardous changes in floor levels, and sign warning that if you fail to tuck the shower curtain in properly and water leaks down stair you will be charged for damages. Why is this necessary when the floors are tiled?
Noisy rooms, there seemed to be a number of young people staying in the hotel and a hen party staying in the rooms above us played loud music in their room till after midnight.
The reception staff are pleasant and friendly but in need of training and advice on customer care. Hotel kitchen closed at 8 on Saturday night when menu stated last orders for food were 8:45, and receptionist had previously told us food was served till 9. Insulted to be told that as I couldn’t drive to nearby restaurants, I could walk there in about 20 minutes. As weather was terrible, we ended up eating takeaway pizzas from a box. Not the Saturday night we had planned when we booked a hotel with an Italian restaurant that supposedly stayed open till 9.
Apart from the nice cooked breakfasts, there is little to recommend the Ocean. It’s possible to accept a hotel is old and tired if you have a pleasant stay but staff negligence and poor customer care are not acceptable.
