The real deal bed and breakfast, we came in right after they did a wedding and it was touch and go getting our room ready because the turnover of all rooms, but once we were in it was magical.

Clean room. David the owner had amazing hospitality. No bed and breakfast but the area is fairly safe and the architecture of the building is beautiful .

The historic aspect of the house, and the beauty of the building and furnishings, really stood out. I loved getting to talk to David Villarrubia, the owner, who served the breakfast. I also enjoyed the free tour, given by Edgar Degas' grand niece.

This place is completely unsuitable for accommodation. It's a house where they hold occasional events and have also decided to host people. I received arrival instructions by email, but practically nothing that was described was done. Breakfast is practically nonexistent; they bought bread, some fruit, and left a coffee machine with a few capsules for use, but everything was very basic. On a hot night, cockroaches appeared in the room I was staying in. There is no staff or anyone who stays there for very long.

Didn’t even end up getting into the hotel. I got to the hotel and called the manager to let me in, he immediately rejected the call and told me to text him. After sending him multiple texts with no reply and the same happening to other people waiting there too I cancelled my booking and found another place. Total scam don’t stay here

History and comfort - close to NOLA nightlife

The staff here was wonderful!!! A great breakfast was served daily and it was very comfortable. This is a historically registered property and the formal tour of the property was WAY BETTER than we had hoped for. It gave great background to the area, the history people of this house and of the times.

I stayed in the Desiree room which was very lovely. The room was beautiful, very clean, and the tub was large enough for two people. It was quiet and we weren't bothered by anyone working there or any tours. There were some miscommunications at check-in. This is obviously a small bed and breakfast in a historical building, so there isn't full time staff that check you in. I received an Expedia message about an envelope in the lock box that had our keys and welcome materials that wasn't there and had to wait for the owner to bring us the keys. He did text us letting us know the wifi password which was supposed to be in the envelope and we didn't really need anything else. They advertised breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, but we checked in on Saturday and there wasn't breakfast on Sunday, but that was ok with us since we wanted to look at some local restaurants.

No heating available and no new towels were provided. Had a small 3 year old child with me and this was deeply concerning. Tried to ask for help but requests went unfulfilled such as the request for an extension cord since most wall sockets were not working. Parking was good but owner made me feel unwanted and not valued as much as other guests.

We were transported back to Old New Orleans and the life of Edgar Degas. Our stay led us to new thoughts and opened up great conversations. Very inspiring. The people were so friendly and caring.

Not for everyone

Loved the charm of this historic property! We were the only guests at the time and no breakfast available. Lousy shower pressure. The room was hot, although not unbearable with window AC. I liked the experience, but my wife didn’t. If comfort a priority, stay elsewhere.

The Degas House hotel is not a serious business. It is shabby, outdated and run-down to the point that normal cleaning is not possible. Even with the Super Bowl approaching, the hotel appeared empty. The "office" looked like a looted demolition project. Was the hotel even officially empty this week? Hotels.com disgraces itself by allowing such a property to be listed.

Loved it!

Very elegant. Historic. Not modern and up to date but I enjoyed that about it. The hot tub was amazing. The staff were very friendly. Parking available around the hotel so we didn’t have to pay for parking unless we went out. Within walking distance from the French Quarter. Gas station/ convenience store within walking distance. Very peaceful. They offer a tour and history of the property. They offer breakfast. Only issue I encountered was since the furniture is antique, it’s starting to break (knob missing off the wardrobe and hinges need to be oiled) and the tv would only play audio, video would not load. Overall great place to stay. Would definitely stay again and recommend to others.

Over promised and under delivered, but I'd stay there again. It is an older property so things are not perfect. It is a beautiful building and very historic. I lived in the historic French Quarter before, so I was prepared for a historic property. The night we arrived there was a wedding going on so it took a bit to get to the lock box. The keys were in an envelope with the name of the room. After 8 hours of driving and walking through a wedding party, it would have been nice to have my name on the envelope. So I grab the wrong set of keys and eventually found someone to tell us where the room is. We drag all of our stuff from one building to another set up in the room, leave for dinner and get a phone call that we are in the wrong room. I mentioned to the lady who showed us the room that we did not book a double. It was a mess, but the housekeeper and some staff helped us move rooms and gave us drinks and a bottle of Champagne. She was wonderful. Breakfast was not as pictured. It was lovely sitting at the table with the other guests and chatting, but the menu was limited. The owner was very nice a breakfast but not so much the night before when the mix up happened. The upstairs room on the 3rd floor had no windows so I felt a bit claustrophobic. I worked for us, but a single person it is perfect. All in all, I'd stay there again. Bus stop right across the street. Off street parking was advertised, but not a reality, but there is plenty of space within a couple of blocks.

Do not stay there!

My wife and I had an awful time- so bad that we left after the first night even though we had a reservation for 4 nights. The owner was overwhelmed when we got there and it took some time for us to get settled in our 3rd floor room. He said he would retake care of a burned out bulb on the night table lamp but never did. The sink in the bathroom had no hot water unless you turned the valve underneath. The towels were not clean. The bed was terrible- it made noise every time you moved and the mattress was awful. The breakfast was mediocre at best. When we called to let them know about the problems in the room we did not get any response until 11am the next day by which time we diecided to move to a decent hotel. While the history of the place and the art was interesting, I would never stay there again because of the condition of the place and the lack of concern from the owner/operator. I have never written a bad review of anywhere else (I travel a lot all over the world) but in this case I really felt compelled to do so.

Centrally located property in midtown on Esplanade. I wanted to have easy access to the French Quarter south of the hotel on Esplanade. I walked from Frenchmen to the hotel in 20-25 minutes and it’s about 10 minutes by car depending on traffic. The GOOD - The buildings aesthetically beautiful, antique furniture, authentic NOLA character with oak trees and Degas sculpture at the front. The master chefs of the kitchen Ms Sharon Ms Alma and Ms D are a formidable team. Best food I eat my entire trip and they took care of me like family. I stayed in the Josephine which had a window looking out to the neighbour’s balcony. The sheets were soft, bed comfortable and I slept well. The BAD- Reception desk has limited hours. I arrived late at night I had to retrieve my key from a drop box. Which worked well but it was not a warm welcome for a stranger in a new city. I never met the manager at all. I checked out the way I arrived. It’s an old historic building so the walls are thin and noise travels easily. There is of course no elevator and a lot of stairs. Lugging my suitcase to my room was no easy feat. The UGLY - The house is in dire need of repair. Drain of the bath tub was blocked so soapy water collected around my ankles when I took my bath. Face basin was rusty and missing the plunger. The drawers of the antique chest were dirty and unusable. Floor boards were sinking, roof paint peeling. Pity. It’s a must visit for breakfast and tour of the house. Stay optional

The property appears to have been abandoned for some time. It is in major disrepair inside and out. On approach to the property you first realize the advertised drive way is unusable with out a large 4x4 vehicle. Front door access key pad is broken. Entering the house the smell of mold is overwhelming. Cob webs dust hornet/wasp nest inside the house we found one in sheet on the bed. BED BUGS were found in two of the four bed rooms dead bugs of various types found throughout. Black Mold in one of the furnace rooms completely covering the walls. If the front yard and interior of the home were not bad enough. The real reason our family booked this property was because of the swimming pool and cool water jacuzzi. Both were filthy and inoperable. No electricity to rum pumps in pool and it obviously had not been used in a very long time. We called owner of the property, he had us call the property manager to come clean up and change bedding they came in with a single sheet of paper towel wiped of 1 or 2 surfaces and left promising to come back with pool guy. Owner showed up tried to get electricity working for pool area didnt help and left us to figure it out. Some of our party was fortunate to afford different accommodations at their own expense last minute, the others of us including a pregnant woman and a 2 year old slept on top of covers and breathed moldy air for our two night stay. At the time of composing this review everyone that stayed is sick. Worst experience ever
