The hotel staff were exceptional, and their service made our stay enjoyable.
However, as a hemiplegic disabled veteran, I must urgently address the Embassy Suites by Hilton San Juan Hotel & Casino's compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regarding shower seat standards. These standards, which should support up to 250 pounds, were not met when my disabled uncle, a 95-year-old Korean War veteran weighing approximately 165 pounds, sat on the wall-anchored shower seat in our room. The seat detached from the wall, causing him to fall onto the shower floor (see attached picture).
Another concern is the lack of a contingency plan for situations where the wall-anchored shower seat cannot be repaired or reinstalled. The hotel had no additional accessible rooms with roll-in showers and proper seating, which is understandable given the usual circumstances. Furthermore, they could not provide a portable shower chair. As a result, my uncle had to bathe using only a washcloth.
