I was going to Brighton to spend 11 days with my son who lives there. As this was in the middle of summer, I was looking for a reasonably priced hotel, and I found it here. Among the cheapest alternatives in the city and very well situated right downtown, close to the beach, the mall, and the lanes.
The hotel is unmanned. You have to dial a number to get somebody to come and let you in. My room was suspicious and had everything I needed. I basically just needed a bed and a bathroom so the addition of our fridge was a nice surprise. I used it a lot during the hot summer days.
The problem though is that even though it looks like a perfectly nice and quiet neighborhood, it’s extremely noisy. I did not get a single night of uninterrupted sleep.
Neighbors are having rave parties at all times tonight. And a surprising number of people are walking by during the wee hours of the night.
As the hotel is unmanned, people turn up at all times a day and can’t figure out how to get in, even though there’s a big sign on the door. I had several people knocking on my window, asking me to let them in. Even at 2 o’clock in the morning.
It’s hard to fault the hotel for this, but it’s good for you to know if you’re planning to stay here long. And night or two I think it’s perfectly fine but for longer stays, I would advise getting a hotel in a more quiet neighborhood.
I did have a room on ground floor. But this was an upgrade to a more spacious room, which I appreciated.
