We enjoyed our two night stay in this delightful, characterful inn. Our room was very clean and the bed most comfortable. Staff were charming and helpful. Breakfast choices were excellent and well prepared. Our evening meal was OK: we were disappointed with the duck bao bun starter- too little filling, and could have done with a dipping sauce. However my husband’s chicken and ham pie was very tasty and the chilli chicken curry was very pleasant. All in all good value and recommended for a few nights stay. We would go again.

Good place to stay when visiting Dorset. Good breakfast each morning. Good bedroom but in need of freshening up. Pub meals were of limited choice but tasty. Staff were helpful and welcoming.

Great find, in a great location to explore the local area, staff, room / breakfast very good. Only thing to improve is the bar pricing, thought £6.70 a little excessive for a pint of local lager.

I love this place! The staff is so friendly and both the beer and the food are great! The atmosphere is unique due to the age of the building and I appreciate its quirkiness. Highly recommend!

A beautiful thatched inn at a location that puts you in reach of so many imteredting places. The building, a former blacksmigh's shop, is bwtween 400 and 450 years old which makes it quirky and full of character. Sadly it would not be possible to make it accessible for those with disabilities. But the food is great, the atmosphere is wonderful and the staff are friendly. I was particularly impressed by their bar manager, Kora. Nothing was too much trouble gor her. I would thoroughly recommend the Anvil and I hope to stay there again someday.

A cosy historic Inn with very comfy beds and excellent food in the restaurant - we enjoyed lunch; dinner and our breakfast (that was included). It was great to see so many people enjoying meals there on a Monday night, so clearly popular with locals. The staff were warm and friendly. There is one accessible room on the ground floor but all others were on the first floor which is accessed by a short but steep (turning)nflight of stairs......my 92 yr old mum struggled up and down & was quite breathless from the exersion. If you are over 5ft 6 you'll need to lower your head along the corridor but it's consitant with an 18 Century Inn and all rooms are of normal height. Our beds (2 single) were very comfy & the room was quiet- even with the window open for fresh air. A shelf in the bathroom would have helped with a place for toiletries......other than that, if was a very enjoyable stay and I would recommend to all who can manage stairs comfortably.

I arrived early and so parking was not an issue. The rooms are quirky and mine had quite low ceilings, luckily i am quite short. The shower was a fitment on the bath and required the user to hold it in one hand as there was no pole. The menu is not standard and offers an interesting variety of options. There was no wifi in my room and when I enquired, I was informed that if I persisted it might work but it had been poor since January.

Check in was easy, room was ok. Everything you needed, everything worked. My only comment would be how hot the room (3) was. Absolutely stifling, quite possibly above the kitchen. Could feel the heat coming through the floor. It was only around 20C during the previous afternoon. I can only imagine how it would be on a hotter day. Breakfast was nice and the staff were great. It's a lovely hotel in a lovely village.

My stay has been very positive. Check‑in was friendly, welcoming, and informative, which set a great tone from the start. My room is cosy, clean, and comfortable, and I’ve had a peaceful night’s sleep. The Wi‑Fi works well, and the free parking is really convenient. The location is good too, making everything easy and stress‑free. Overall, I’m very happy with my experience.
