Castle Lodge, I was in room 1. it was a nice hotel. I recommend it to stay there. The people the owners was very nice and made me feel welcome. I would stay there again. The breakfast was okay and offered me a pack lunch to take with me because I had a long way to go. I would recommend four stars.ā­ ā­ļøā­ļøā­ļø

Quick Stopover

Chose this place after a day of hiking in Brecon. Itā€™s a pub/chippy with a few rooms. Reception in the bar. Got taken to room which was outside, downstairs. Room was cold, and partly used as a storage room. Wasnā€™t very clean. Was a kitchenette there but no utensils to make use of it. The boiler cupboard in the room had a few dirty duvets, decorating material and other items that belonged elsewhere. The noise from the room/bar above travelled through and disturbed us all. The room serves a purpose after a day of hiking, and we only stayed there because we were tired. We chose to use the hotel chippy for food and also regretted that - it wasnā€™t very nice. Apparently the owners are quite new and finding their feet so I feel a bit hard for this review but we didnā€™t enjoy our stay. The breakfast was poor - a bunch of instant coffee, poor quality bread for toasting and thatā€™s about it. We didnā€™t see a staff member at all apart from check in. Overall, I would recommend for a means to an end type of stay, but if you want a bit more of a personal service then go to a Travelodge.

Oh dear. Itā€™s a pub with rooms, reception at the bar. If weā€™d seen the TrAd reviews we wouldnā€™t have booked. We were allocated a room (vii) which was - literally - barely bigger than the bed; the only window was in the tiny shower room which has a basin the size of a breeze block and a WC made of non-fitting parts. It was a disgrace and should not be advertised. Fortunately we spotted a larger room and after some discussion (nothing in the blurb said ā€œsmallā€) we were moved there. The new room was spacious, the linen and towels were clean and fresh, but the surfaces - even the TV remote - were dirty and sticky. Serious lack of maintenance: screw missing from light switch, blind wouldnā€™t go down at first, then wouldnā€™t stay up; good shower but the door wouldnā€™t close; no plug in sink. Nobody there to help with breakfast, but anyway we couldnā€™t get away fast enough. Obviously not learned much from the reviews.

Shocking

I cannot believe this hotel is rated as good. Filthy carpets on way to rooms, halway covered in dirt, cobwebs in the room, dust on all the furniture, bed was as soft as marshmallow, no soap in toilet, just terrible. In fact it was that bad we didn't even stay, we just handed back the keys and walked out despite losing our payment.

Went with my husband for our anniversary. Was left waiting for a key for half an hour. Someone wondered off to get it and then forgot about us. I had to go find someone else as we were waiting to go out. The 'cosy'room with a double bed which is next to a wall was lumpy and uncomfortable. Marks all over the wall and mould in the bathroom. Only 1 mug etc. The toilet seat and lid was far too small for the toilet. When I sat down on it during my half an hour wait for the key, I could feel the toilet basin all cold and wet on the back of my thighs. Decided we couldn't stay here. Went downstairs to say, couldn't see anyone so we decided to leave the key on the side in the bedroom. I got a voicemail the next day saying I had checked out and could they have the key back. They've no clue what's going on there.

I have dogs, this is one of the best pet friendly hotels I've stayed at. Friendly, helpful staff, nice curry house just along the road and a short drive to the Parkrun I was taking part in. Thanks šŸ˜Š

Good service, but ok overall

The service was great, and Ray was the perfect host but the cleanliness let the hotel down. All the essentials were clean - bath, sink and bedding so that was good, but the floor in the bathroom hadnā€™t been hovered so was quite hairy, and there were some windows in the communal areas that were a bit mouldy.

Needs some maintenance and a good clean

Hotel was in need of some maintenance and a good clean. Paint peeling from walls and damp stains with mould on windows, as well as stained carpets. Stale smell in the hallways and the walls are incredibly thin, so you can hear everything from adjacent rooms. Breakfast was basic and very much ā€˜self serviceā€™, with instant coffee power, cheap loaves of bread and toasters for you to sort out yourself. ā€˜Serviceā€™ was not a priority and we didnā€™t really see any members of staff while we were there. Did the job for one night but we did not want to spend any more time there than we had to.

The staff were nice enough on arrival, showed us to our room and we left for wedding. We didn't come back until midnight and the smell of musty damp was present. The kitchenette units were full of crumbs, there were cobwebs and spiders above the one single bed which we had to get rid of before sleeping. The sink in the one bathroom fills water and takes a while to go down. We returned the keys this morning and no mention of breakfast (which i later seen was meant to be included) Was ok, in need of a good revamp.
