We were travelling as a group of 4 and arrived at 20.05. We were told that there was no food available as the kitchen closed at 20.00. There was nothing in the booking or on the website that advised of the kitchen closing time. The only food available was crisps and then the bar closed at 21.30.

A nice Hotel with lovely period features. Unfortunately though I was not put in the room I booked as this had been given to another Guest. The room I was given was small with three very large hammock sized cobwebs hanging on the wall that had been there for some time. The room I was in was obviously over the kitchen so had the kitchen fans running when kitchen was occupied, which when they started up at 7am in the morning was not very happy. When I went to eat, was told there were no Sunday lunches available. Tried to order Pizza, told there was none available. Breakfast though was excellent with high quality ingredients.

The food was excellent - both breakfast and evening meal. Full fresh cooked breakfast included in the cost of the room. Proper Americano coffee served at no extra cost with breakfast! I had a glass of champagne with the evening meal and it was chilled, bubbly and perfect.

A lovely quaint 15th century pub - restaurant with rooms located in a historic village nestled among the downs. Convenient for Newbury, M4, M3 and 55mins from Portsmouth. We had a a warm welcome from staff and our standard room was a good size as was the bathroom. Our room was quiet and on the ground floor with windows looking onto the immaculate chef's vegetable garden. We were invited to try the sloe gin left for us in our room and we were introduced to the upstairs guest lounge which is a beautiful space with comfortable sofas, reading materials and games and equipped with whisky for guests to sip. The pub was lively with locals. There is an outside terrace and there is a good selection of drinks available. The restaurant was calm and there is a varied menu where local ingredients are featured. Breakfast, served in the restaurant was tip-top. Plenty of choice of cooked and cold mains with a buffet of juices, cereals, fruits, breads, croissants and accompaniments.

Very busy, definitely worth booking for your meal, the food was more Gastro Pub than normal but lovely none the less. Great staff. Quirky and old building with sloping floors. Very nice bed in the bedroom. Only slight downside is you can hear the bar etc downstairs until they close but if you are not an early to bed type of person its fine. VERY little parking onsite but there is other parking in the village.

Great Accommodation and Food

Delightful 15th century pub with very comfortable rooms. The food in the pub was superb at both dinner and breakfast and we would highly recommend staying here.
