Let's be real here: the name of this hotel doesn't raise your expectations. But they _have_ kept up with the industry to a great degree, and to that extent they did exceed expectations and the staff members were very helpful and responsive. Of note: "Lake view" is an accurate statement, though the lake is 200 yards away. This does provide quick and easy access to downtown, the copious ferry operators (and their parking), and I-75 and The Bridge.
The room was older, a bit darker, and smallish by 'modern standards', but featured all of the amenities you could hope for -- including an in-room safe. There was also a couch for extra seating, so that was helpful. On-site coin laundry (1 washer, 1 dryer; first-come/first-serve) was a key factor in choosing this location. An indoor pool and game room were both available as well. It was all comfortable.
Breakfast fare was very good -- including some different hot options on different days.
Downsides: the hot water failed during my 2nd day's stay. Room credit was promptly offered and accepted -- good on them for that. Those with concerns about security should note that many rooms have _two_ access doors -- one each to internal and external hallways.
I would not mind going back.
