There are many pleasant things about the Wydown, but the hotel did not meet my expectations.
When I arrived in the afternoon at around check-in time, I was advised that I was receiving an “upgrade” to a corner room. The room itself was lovely, but it faced Main Street. I was concerned about the street noise and called the front desk and asked to be moved elsewhere. I was advised that the only other room available was a similar corner room overlooking Main Street. No explanation was given why the premium room I had reserved was not available. I was offered the use of a white noise machine, which I accepted. Later that night we also turned on a Dyson fan in the room as an additional sound block.
The problem is this. Main Street in St. Helena is also the main north/south highway running through Napa Valley, Route 29. The hotel is located on a block on which there is a traffic signal. Large trucks apparently make lots of noise when they decelerate to stop at the light, and then also when they accelerate to begin travel again. This room is on the second floor and this loud truck noise is not blocked out by either a white noise machine or a Dyson fan. There was a very loud truck at about 4:30 a.m., and at about 6:30 a.m. the loud truck noise began to come with some frequency. This is not the experience I was seeking from this hotel, and I would not stay in this room again.
