Stayed here with my wife for a weekend, and discovered a $250 fee for breaking their no smoking policy charged 3 days after we checked out. The problem is, neither of us are smokers! Asked manager Dana why the hotel believes we were smoking in the room and was told that cleaning staff reported a smell after we left.
That's all they went on. No one mentioned any of this to us during our 2 night stay.
Doing some reading online, I doscovered this is a common scam among franchised hotels. It is borderline legal and there is very little recourse for the accused guest, especially if you live out of state!
I'll probably just end up eating the charge, but TRAVELER, BEWARE! You may want to stay somewhere else, especially if you are visiting friends who do smoke (which we weren't); from what I've read, just bringing the smell into the room from outside second hand contact is enough to give them cause to bilk you!
