Cheap (by Vancouver standards) and cheerful. They let us park early which was nice. We were disappointed that the historic tiki bar was booked for a private party but other than that, it was perfect for our needs. Just a clean place to sleep, and nice that it was in a heritage building.
Staff were all great - friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Room apparently wasn't fully cleaned, which I discovered in the evening when I found a bag full of old, mostly empty, stinky take out food containers. I had been put off by their smell when I first entered the room, but thought perhaps that was just the smell that came with an old, dated hotel room. It was gross. Like some kind of rotten cheese. I aired the room out after I got rid of the garbage, but the whole thing left me feeling dirty and unsafe.
The Waldorf is a famous staple of the east side area of Vancouver. It's been simply renovated but retains the majority of its old esthetic; it's a mixture of polynesian and art deco. Limited rooms on the second floor with the check-in located on the first, no elevator. In room furniture is lovingly worn, including mattresses. Low prices make this hotel affordable for everyone. Lovely restaurant and bar attached. No Frills and Starbucks across the street is very convenient for coffee and snacks.
The rooms were very quiet and comfortable but nothing to write home about. I expect that though for the price. However, the area was very nice and had a nice with my girlfriend to commercial drive. Yolks across the street was great for breakout fast and the bar downstairs was lots of fun.
Our stay at The Waldorf was amazing, the staff was very friendly and very helpful with everything
Cool bamboo walls in this room. Not all have them here. Seedy area of Vancouver though, not the worst, but not definitely close to some grimey areas.
The Hotel at the Waldorf was very affordable and near some convenient stores and restaurants. The staff were very kind and helpful with recommendations for where to go for different things (for example, one staff member recommended a few different breakfast places to us and gave us detailed directions to get there). Unfortunately, the hotel does not offer a late checkout option, which was a bit disappointing to us. The room we were in was a bit worn down or "well loved" and was difficult to get warm since it is a bit of an older building. We had some cleanliness issues, but notified the staff and they were surprised by them and were trying to compensate us for it, though their manager was not there, but that alone was very kind in my opinion. I would definitely stay here again. The bus routes are superb from the hotel, and there is a lot of convenience in the stores and restaurants nearby.
Single pain windows make it loud from the outside noise. Bed was not very cosy & only had a sheet and throw blanket.. not a proper duvet. Room was only $80 though.. so guess thats what you get.
Lobby and hallways needs an update in looks with better lighting. The room looked great, no bugs or anything negative about them.
Needed a cheap place during new years and it did the job. What dragged the 'meh' experience here to a good one, was the receptionist Jamie, I believe her name was. Went above to help me out, I really appreciated her. Other than that, the walls are pretty thin, I reccomend shower shoes (looks clean but didnt feel clean), and its thin 2 ply toilet paper
