recently stayed at the TownePlace Suites in Allentown and had a mixed experience.
The positives first: the room was very spacious, clean, well-maintained, and had that fresh, new-hotel feel. It was exactly what I expected for the price I paid. The indoor pool area was also very nice. While the outdoor space was pleasant, the view was limited to the parking lot and highway.
Unfortunately, there were several annoyances during my stay. When booking, I specifically requested a quiet room on a high floor, but I was assigned a room on the second floor. The hallway was noisy, and the sound of doors slamming carried into the room.
Another issue was music played throughout the lobby at check in. It wasn’t excessively loud, but this club-style music was playing when I checked in and was still playing at 6:30 a.m. during breakfast. It felt out of place for the atmosphere and time of day. When I mentioned it to the front desk, I was told it was part of the brand’s standard programming and that only a manager could change it.
The room itself was in good condition, but the shower had a maintenance issue. Even after switching the diverter from tub to shower, water continued pouring from the tub faucet, reducing shower pressure.
Breakfast was disappointing for a Marriott property. The selection felt comparable to what I would expect from a budget hotel brand rather than a Marriott. There were few options for health-conscious guests, and I would have appreciated at least a gluten-free bread.
