I rarely leave negative reviews, but my recent stay at Comfort Inn St. Clairsville, Ohio was so appalling that I feel compelled to share my experience. To put it bluntly, my stay was ruined by the presence of bed bugs, and this has completely shaken my trust in the establishment.
We arrived to the hotel Nov. 1, 2025 and checked in to freshen up and leave for a concert. We returned back to our room after midnight. In the morning, my husband got up and saw a bug and asked me what it was. I got a clear cup and scooped it up and did a google image search, sure enough, it was a bed bug. I inspected the bed and discovered the unmistakable signs of bed bugs—small blood stains on the sheets and the bugs themselves crawling around the mattress.
This was absolutely unacceptable. I immediately took the bug to the front desk and reported the issue. To my dismay, the staff’s response was indifferent at best. I handed the attendant the cup with the bed bug in it, she said ‘Oh man, what room’ and proceeded to smash the bed bug in the cup. I told her how extremely upset I was and she proceeded to tell me her manager was on vacation and pointed for me to take a card. I was dumbfounded, but by that point, I had already lost confidence in the cleanliness and safety of the entire hotel. The lack of urgency and empathy from the staff was incredibly disappointing.
