I booked a hotel through Expedia and received a confirmation, only to arrive and be told the hotel never received my reservation from Expedia. As a result, they had no room for me. To make matters worse, this happened on a night when every other hotel in the area was fully booked (new years eve), leaving me without a place to stay.
This situation was extremely stressful and unacceptable. A booking confirmation should mean the reservation actually exists on the hotel’s end. Expedia failed at the most basic function of a booking platform, and I paid the price for it.
I would strongly caution others: a confirmation from Expedia does not guarantee the hotel has your reservation. After this experience, I’ve lost trust in using Expedia for hotel bookings.
