I was on BART, all packed, just a few stops from SFO airport when I got a call from the hotel saying the main water pipe broke and the whole hotel had no water from toilets, showers, etc. But since I didn't get notified till I was heading to my plane, there was no time to book another room, so my whole vacation was lost. I got a hotel refund, but not a flight refund; so I'm out the whole airline fare and got no vacation out of it. The hotel would not find us another room and it was all on me to navigate the app, but this was booked in advance and at a great price, so I'd have been out another thousand, if on just hours notice, I'd tried to book a new room in the district I needed to be in. (And in that city, location is absolutely everything, so a distant hotel out where there's no bus service and where only taxis run - - this would have bankrupted me. So now I get no vacation for the year and have to spend months paying off an airline fare I never got to use.) I'm a very low-income senior on Social Security only, so this is a total disaster that will mess up months of my life.
