Have visited GVH regularly when it was the Ravenscar Hotel, but have never stayed. The hotel appears to be transitioning in to a wedding venue, to the detriment of the hotels other guests. The bar breakfast and lounge area used to be overlooking the scenic bay. This area has now been pushed to the rear of the hotel,in a rather drab and dreary room with no charm or outlook. Whoever decided to paint the ceiling of this area in the same depressing colour as the walls must enjoy living in a cave. Even though we enjoy the area and walk here regularly this shift
on emphasis does not entice me to make a return visit. We had a meal in the restaurant on the Saturday evening, this was overpriced so we expected very good quality. This was not to be, the “oven chips” to go with the meal were cold and undercooked and so had to be returned to the kitchen.
Over all we love visiting this area, and enjoy the ambiance, character and charm of the hotel. However it appears it has lost its soul.
