We had a wonderful vacation in Santa Cruz overall, but I’m not sure we would choose to stay at this hotel again. Especially considering we paid around $400/night, plus an added $160 dog fee for 3 nights.
Overall, I don’t think the quality of the hotel lived up to the price. Considering how much wear and tear there was in our room (split fabric on the couch, broken lights on the stairs) and no a/c which made it pretty stuffy inside during the summer, I think a price point of around $250/night would have been more reasonable.
The continental breakfast in the morning was hit or miss. Bagels were stale one day, okay the next. One day there was hot water for tea, the next there wasn’t.
The beach closest to the hotel is very small and we only walked down there once. It has kind of a dirty, seedy feel. However, there are nice beaches a short walk in either direction a few blocks away.
The small kitchen was nice to have but we didn’t cook much. If you’re planning on cooking a lot, having the kitchen might be worth it.
The pros included the communal patio, which we had to ourselves on a couple mornings and one afternoon. There’s a nice little view of the water from the deck, and we enjoyed relaxing with our coffee there in the morning or while taking a break in the afternoon.
We had a good time, but I expected the hotel to be in better condition after looking at the pictures, and I think for the price we paid, I’d probably look for a different hotel next time.
