I stayed in a shared dorm. Pros: room and bathroom seemed clean and well cared for relative to other shared accommodations I have seen. Carlos - caretaker - very kind. Cool punk/rock bar and record shop a block and a half away. 20 min walk to nice areas. I WOULD stay here again - it is actually an exceptional value in the budget category, caveated by the CONS: I'm a well-traveled big 50 YO male with street smarts - I would not stay here as a single female or if not street-smart. The neighborhood is fine, but questionable. It is not a nice area. I did not research crime stats, but I would not wander alone off of the main thoroughfares. Also, NO staff support after hours - if an issue comes up, you have NO way of getting help. I had a serious issue with the automatic locks and almost didn't get into my room late at night and don't know what I would have done if someone else hadn't been in the room and opened the door after I made 15-20 attempts will the lock code and setting off alarms. I even tested how to use the locks before leaving and still had this trouble. Had to practice for 30 min the next morning to be sure it worked consistently. Also, lockers are tiny, you need to bring your own locks, they aren't attached to the wall, and they don't really fit even a small backpack, so you need to be comfortable leaving your things exposed in the room. Again, this is for a shared dorm. It was a cold day in Miami when I visited but the common area wasn't appealing.
