We had our reservations about staying at a La Quinta, but after seeing that this location was new and had a 9 review score, we reluctantly decided to give it a try during our road trip. What an awful and disappointing choice.
From the moment we pulled into the parking lot, we were met with the unsettling sight of people sitting in their cars openly smoking. It only got worse from there. When we got off the elevator to our floor, we were immediately hit with the smell of cigarette smoke. Upon entering our room, the stench of marijuana was overwhelming—like walking straight into a weed factory.
It quickly became clear that this may be a smoking hotel. There were no no-smoking signs anywhere, and the windows actually opened, which is unusual for hotels and would certainly appeal to smokers. Unfortunately, for non-smokers like us, it made for an absolutely miserable experience.
My wife became congested almost immediately after entering the room and woke up the next morning with a tension headache from breathing in the fumes that seemed to come right through the room's vents. We hardly got any sleep, not only from the poor air quality but also from worrying about our car, given the sketchy crowd loitering around the parking lot.
The only reason this hotel gets 2 stars instead of 1 is because the bed itself was decent. Otherwise, this stay was a major letdown, and we absolutely would not recommend it to anyone who values a clean, smoke-free, and safe environment.
