BEWARE — We found signs of bed bugs.
When we arrived at our room, we were fortunate not to have brought our belongings in yet. As someone who routinely checks for bed bugs, I looked at the mattress and found unmistakable signs including dead shedding along the mattress seams on both sides. I kept looking to be sure, and eventually saw a live bed bug crawling on the card I was using to inspect.
There were also food remnants (nuts and raisins) on the floor, which added to our concern.
We reported the issue immediately to the front desk. The staff member said a refund would be no problem, but I had to go through Expedia to actually receive it. My friend, who booked directly through the hotel, is still disputing the charge with her credit card company. When I asked for the staff member’s name, they DECLINED to provide it and told me to “just tell them the front desk said it was okay.”
If you experience anything similar, I strongly recommend requesting written confirmation of any refund agreement and documenting everything with photos and timestamps. I’m grateful for Expedia’s support, but this was a distressing experience I wouldn’t want anyone else to go through.
