I booked this stay well in advance to celebrate our wedding anniversary, expecting a smooth and special experience. After a long drive, we arrived at the hotel late in the evening only to be informed at the front desk that the room we had booked was no longer available due to unspecified “safety issues.”
At no point prior to our arrival were we notified of this issue. When I questioned why we had not been given advance notice, the front desk staff stated that because the reservation was made through a third-party platform, it was Hotels.com’s responsibility to notify us. Regardless of internal processes, the end result was that we arrived exhausted, with no warning, and no viable alternative arrangements.
Because it was already very late and we did not have the time or energy to search for another hotel, we were forced to accept a substitute room that did not meet our expectations or match what we had originally booked. I expressed my dissatisfaction and requested a room change, which was eventually granted. However, we were then required to move all of our belongings ourselves—including an anniversary package that had been arranged and placed in a room we never selected in the first place.
This situation caused unnecessary stress and significantly diminished what was meant to be a meaningful and celebratory occasion. The lack of communication, accountability, and consideration fell well below reasonable service standards.
