I was looking forward to staying at Skarsnuten Hotel, but unfortunately the experience fell well below expectations and certainly did not feel like a 4star hotel.
We arrived at around 10:00 p.m. after a long journey, only to discover that every restaurant had already closed and the hotel offered no room service whatsoever. To make matters worse, the room didn’t even have complimentary drinking water, a kettle, or a box of tissues. We later found out that guests could refill water bottles at the gym, but the gym had already closed at 9:00 p.m. Reception was aware that we had arrived late and had nowhere to get food or even water, but offered little assistance or alternatives. For a hotel advertised as four-star, this level of service was extremely disappointing. The room also had several glass bottles of soft drinks in the minibar, but there was no bottle opener provided, making them impossible to open.
Another disappointing experience was with the spa. When I went to enquire about booking, I saw the guest before me—a gentleman travelling with two teenage kids—being accommodated even though they did not have reservations. When it was my turn, I was immediately told the spa was fully booked, without any attempt to see if something could be arranged. Regardless of whether there was a legitimate reason for the different outcomes, the contrast left a poor impression. At the very least, the staff should have informed me at check-in that spa reservations should be made in advance.
