Checked into a one-bedroom superior suite, which felt like a gloomy apartment with a view of a footpath. We seriously considered leaving, but opted for an upgrade to a city-view room, which I highly recommend.
Self-parking in the grubby basement is available. We spent quite some time trying to get into that, as our keycards had not been activated even though we discussed our car and parking at check-in, and there’s no signage to guide you.
If you love a quality 5-star buffet breakfast, this isn't the hotel for you. Breakfast is basic; easily the most minimal I’ve encountered at a 5-star hotel.
You may(?) also be sharing the pool and gym with residents who live in the building.
One saving grace is that some of the staff were lovely, which helped offset the poor first impression at check-in from an unsmiling staff member.
In summary, there are far nicer hotels in the Melbourne CBD, and along Southgate, for less.
