I booked a king room for 2/20–2/21 through Hotels.com and added a second night directly through Choice Hotels after support advised that would prevent having to change rooms. Unfortunately, the stay turned into a stressful experience.
At check-in we were placed in rooms next to each other, but that evening our key stopped working and even staff couldn’t unlock the door. After waiting over an hour for maintenance (who never came), we were forced to move rooms after 11 PM. The replacement was a double ADA room instead of the king we booked. It was next to train tracks with trains running almost hourly, and marijuana smoke came in through the AC from outside the window.
The next morning we were told we had to pay $20 to stay between bookings despite being told the day before that it wouldn’t be an issue. When we chose to move into our friend’s room instead, we were charged another $20 fee.
We ended up moving rooms four times in two nights. One room door wouldn’t latch properly and could be pushed open even when locked, which was a serious safety concern. We also experienced stained bedding, dusty fixtures, unstable and leaking toilets, and a cloudy hot tub.
What was supposed to be a relaxing girls’ weekend became overwhelming and disappointing. I travel frequently and expect basic cleanliness, safety, and consistent communication—none of which were delivered here.
