We chose this hotel for comfort and the promise of a good breakfast, but unfortunately we were disappointed on both counts.
The first family room we were given had wallpaper peeling off the bathroom wall and mastic coming away around the edges. The room was cold, only heated by an electric unit—which suggests this might be a known issue. It was also quite narrow, making it difficult for the family to move around, especially when accessing the bathroom. Thankfully, the staff were able to move us to another room.
Breakfast, served between 8–10am on New Year’s Day, also fell short of expectations. We arrived at 9:15am to find that the staff had already stopped replenishing the food, which was frustrating. It felt unnecessarily early for a holiday morning.
Given the already high room rates, the quality and service were disappointing, and the added cost of parking didn’t help. We visit Newbury regularly, but after this experience, we’ll likely look for alternative accommodation next time.
