I stayed at the Grand Mercure Dubai City for just 24 hours, so this is based on a quick visit.
Overall, the hotel has a lot of great things going for it:
• The room was extremely clean, spacious, and the bed was really comfortable.
• The bathroom was excellent – plenty of hot water and strong shower pressure.
• It was very quiet; I had no noise issues until the incident I mention below.
• The breakfast was fantastic – huge variety, everything fresh and tasty.
One small downside: when I first entered the room, there was a faint cigarette smell that bothered me a bit.
But the main complaint: Around 3:30 AM, a very loud fire alarm went off and woke up the entire building. It was scary – I even wondered if it had something to do with an emergency or conflict in the area. When I asked at reception in the morning, they said it was a false alarm. It took a long time to stop, and after that, it was really hard to get back to sleep.
Apart from that alarming wake-up call, everything else was very good for a short stay. I’d consider coming back, but I’d hope they fix whatever caused the false alarm!
