Overall: Nice location.
Highlights: the wildlife and a spectacular desert thunderstorm.
Lowlights: too many to enumerate. The biggest issue was the attitude of the staff. Specifically the front desk. The hotel guest concept seemed to inconvenience to them.
Me: Which of your villas have a pool? Them: ”Do you know how many villas we have here lady?! Over 65. I don’t have time to look up what has what. All the villas are the same, you’ll enjoy it. It’s nice here”, muttered a grumpy older-sounding man over the phone.
WOW! All the same or some have pools? And why so grumpy Archie Bunker?
He was not the only grumpy or sarcastic or outright hostile employee. I think they are experiencing some sort of toxic staff issue. The bad attitudes were pervasive. A few of the porters were pleasant though, especially the one who knew the hangout spots of the owls and cute desert animals and took us on the scenic route in the golf cart whether we wanted it or not. At least he tried to be friendly whereas the others were just inhospitable. I was apprehensive to ask for anything. We moved from a drab room in the hinterland with no sofa and non-streaming tv to a villa and just bought our own food to cook to avoid interactions with the hotel staff. Cleaning crew were awesome!
Dining room at the golf club smelled like a live sewer. The staff were nose-blind. She said they had been having ongoing plumbing problems for months. We couldn’t eat w/poop smell, in 90 degree heat. We left, sad.
