I wanted to love this place and hate leaving a negative review. If not for one giant issue this would be a 5-star review. But that issue is a deal breaker (at least for us) -- as soon as you walk in the room, you are overwhelmed by a terrible smell. It's a moldy, musty smell. And there's no way to make it go away -- it's so strong that our clothes smelled like mold when we left the room.
The staff was very nice -- I explained the issue, they had me check several other available rooms in case they were better. But sadly the other 5 rooms I checked (different floors, different buildings) all had the same smell. It's really sad because these buildings look new, I don't know what is causing it or how it could even be fixed. But, it's a bad smell. Like black mold bad.
There are positives. If you don't mind smells (or aren't sensitive to that) -- the buildings are new. The room itself was 100% spotless -- the cleaning crew is doing a great job (the smell must be coming from inside the walls or under the floor, or maybe the AC units). The view of the river from our room and little porch was absolutely beautiful. The location was close enough to downtown that we walked home after dinner at Moore Street Oyster Bar. And it's a really close location to the ferry, which was why we stayed there. Parking under the building was a nice perk and very convenient.
So this would be a 5-star review, if not for the moldy smell. I hope the hotel owner can figure out the mold issue and fix it!
