The apartment is in an excellent location: a short walk from Termini, Trevi fountain and the Colosseum.
However inside the apartment it is tired. There’s visible signs of wear and tear, scuffs, mold, broken furniture and a general lack of care, upkeep & maintenance.
One shower doesn’t work consistently, with the control handle falling off so you can’t adjust and turn on/off. The hob can’t use all rings at full power at once and there’s no plug in the sink. I’m also not sure if the air conditioning is “plumbed in”, and appears to just blow slightly cooler air around the room.
The apartment is also incredibly damp. Every soft furnishing is damp to the touch, to the extent that sitting on the sofa would leave marks. After one night, two of us developed sore throats and runny noses, a symptom of moldy bedding.
During check-in I was encouraged to leave the air conditioning on dehumidify, and shown how to reset fuses when they trip, which is a worrying sign.
We left after one night for alternative accommodation, and the hosts have refused a refund for our unused nights.
I question how and why an apartment that is unfit for habitation is allowed on Hotels.com.
