Hotel canceled reservation due to "overbooking" on day of expected check in. Hotel claimed Hotels.com booked without checking availability but my research suggests otherwise. Furthermore, booking was made 3 months before intended check in and hotel surely would have known before day of check in. Since our stay was only one night and not prepaid, I suggest we were easiest to cancel.
For its part, Hotels.com was TOTALLY unreachable; its lines are totally automated and they offer a menu of "permitted" issues (not including ours). We made numerous futile attempts to reach an agent. Our solution for the future is to never use them again and book directly with hotels.
