Although the apartment was nice, the experience with the company renting the apartment was horrendous and put a damper for me on the whole trip. It is not an individual renting the apartment. It is a company that seems more interested in selling you add-ons to your trip (e.g, boat adventures, side trips) than welcoming you to the home. They have rules about everything and they literally charge you for every little thing -- if you don't take out your own recycling glass, they charge you (despite the fact that they are already charging you for maid service). If you need an extra towel, they charge you. If you leave any dishes in the sink, they charge you. It is crazy. On top of the very expensive rental rate, they charge you a deposit from which they deduct everything relating to their rules. And I was unaware of the deposit requirement when I signed up for the apartment. The notes they send about things like the local tax and deposit are threatening and rude. To make matters worse, the ceiling fixture in one of the bathrooms fell and broke -- glass all over the bathroom floor. We weren't even in the apartment when it happened -- thank goodness. Very dangerous condition. Even in this situation, they are deciding whether they are going to charge us for the break. Overall, it is not worth having to deal with the company running the apartment -- cinqueterrariviera.com. I understand that they run other apartments in the Cinque Terra area. Avoid them at all costs.
