Review of My Stay
I recommend staying one night in Arashiyama—two nights felt a bit too long. Most of the staff speak little to no English, so having a Japanese translation device is essential. While the Korean-speaking staff member was kind and helpful, the service and attitude of some other front desk staff were quite disappointing. On the other hand, the restaurant staff provided excellent service. The housekeeping staff were very polite and well-mannered. However, perhaps due to the peak season, the front desk staff seemed more focused on avoiding responsibility than actually resolving issues. Their approach leaned heavily toward collecting payment and securing signatures to prevent problems, rather than providing solutions—something quite unusual to see at a hotel. Also, be careful when booking through Hotels.com—make sure to accurately include the number of children. I had to pay an additional 50% of the reservation cost for one extra child. The public bath is much more satisfying than the private bath.
