We stayed at the La Quinta Inn by Hill Air Force Base last night as a last-minute option, and it was… fine. Very fine. Aggressively fine.
Our room was right next to the stairwell, so we got to enjoy the soothing sounds of people clomping up and down at all hours. To make it even better, our window faced In-N-Out Burger, which means while trying to fall asleep, we could clearly hear the drive-thru intercom taking orders. Since In-N-Out doesn’t close until about 1:30 a.m., it felt less like a hotel stay and more like we were camping next to a very popular cheeseburger.
Now, the pool. This is usually the highlight for our kids… but this one had vibes. The hot tub was broken, the pool water was kind of dirty, and the room itself was dimly lit and super foggy. Walking in felt like the opening scene of Creature from the Black Lagoon. Even my daughter paused and gave me the “are you sure?” look before getting in. We swam for about 30 minutes, which is unheard of for our kids, then made a quiet, mutual decision to escape.
The beds were okay, nothing terrible, nothing amazing. We usually stay at Hiltons, so this definitely felt like a downgrade—but for a last-minute stay, it did the job.
Would I plan a family trip around it? No. Would I stay again in a pinch? Maybe… but I’d bring earplugs and a flashlight for the pool.
