I had high expectations for the Riu Hotel in San Francisco, as the brand is generally associated with good quality and comfort. Unfortunately, this stay turned out to be the worst hotel experience of my life.
The room was completely inadequate for four people. It was extremely small, with no proper space for luggage and no functional storage. The bathroom was even more problematic: tiny to the point of being uncomfortable. To make matters worse, the shower, toilet, and sink were all compressed into the same minimal area, and the bathroom sink was oddly integrated with a very small wardrobe, further reducing usable space.
The shower itself was disappointing. The water pressure was extremely weak, making it difficult to shower properly. The sink had a flow restrictor that barely allowed water to come out, which was highly inconvenient and unacceptable for a hotel in this price range.
The breakfast experience was equally poor. The breakfast staff was rude and unwelcoming, creating an unpleasant atmosphere first thing in the morning. The food offered was entirely industrialized, with nothing fresh, appealing, or flavorful. It felt more like a low-cost cafeteria than a hotel breakfast.
Considering the price paid, the overall cost-benefit ratio is extremely poor. This stay fell far below expectations and does not reflect the standards one would expect from the Riu brand. I would not recommend this hotel and would not return.
