Let's start with the positive things: The hotel is very conveniently located on a quiet alley off high street, 5' walk from the Bodleian library, and 2' walk from the Oxford airline and Tube bus stop. The staff are all very helpful and efficient. The place is generally clean although the carpet in the common areas could do with a renovation.
Now the problematic ones. The rooms are small. I was expecting that given that the hotel is located in an historic building. However, the real issue is that the rooms are stuffy and hot during hot summer days. There is no air conditioning, and the room temperature goes from almost paradise (1st floor) to purgatory (2nd floor) and hell (3rd floor). Depending on what you are used to, sleeping can be problematic on the 2nd floor and impossible on the 3rd. Luckily the staff helped with a change of room and pairs of ventilators, including one filled with a bucket of ice that fitted the atmosphere quite well, even if it did not last long. Considering the cost per night, I was not expecting this kind of issue.
Bottom line, avoid the place if the weather forecast is above 30 C.
