6. Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument

The Musical Highway covers an eastbound stretch of the famed Route 66, and it plays “America the Beautiful” as you ride over it. 9. Trinity Atomic Bomb Site

10. Dwan Light Sanctuary

The Dwan Light Sanctuary is named for its conceptualizer and funder, Virginia Dwan, and is perfectly aligned to maximise the use of light all day and night. The site was selected for its relative position to the sun, moon, and stars, and the structure is oriented to use 12 prisms around the roof that project coloured ribbons of light that move as the Earth does. They also work with the moon, showing a different spectrum of light. A northern window always frames the North Star at night, and an axis that sits parallel to the Earth’s is painted on the floor. The sanctuary offers a serene refuge away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
