Not a winery in the conventional sense, as it doesn’t produce wine currently, the Château is a landmark in winemaking history. Cistercian monks began making wine here in the 12th century, using 4 giant wine presses and a vat-house that can still be viewed today.
The Renaissance-style château was added in the 16th century, and today serves as headquarters for an esteemed wine society. The Clos de Vougeot vineyard itself is one of the largest in Côte de Nuits and is renowned for producing some of the most exquisite pinot noir wines in the world.
