Dating back to 1854, Myren gård, also known as Myren Farm, is an English-style garden featuring a fabulous Swiss-style summerhouse that’s made entirely of hand-cut logs. Conceived by Joseph Oscar Wergeland, a military officer and cartographer, in 1859, Wergelandsparken is enviably situated next to Kristiansand Cathedral and a charming, cobbled square. You’ll find cafes, bars and shops nearby. At the centre of this green space, you’ll find the statue of Henrik Wergeland, Jospeh’s older brother and a celebrated poet.
Stoll beneath the mature trees, gaze at the colourful flower beds and take a photo with The Bug, an insect-like creature that’s made out of metal. The park is right next door to the SKMU Sørlandets Kunstmuseum, a space that’s filled with contemporary paintings and abstract modern sculptures.

Overlooking the idyllic Otra River, Elveparken Kristiansand is a recently transformed green space. It features a playground and recreation area, plenty of tables and benches and well-kept sculptural lawns that run adjacent to the water. Onion blossoms, mature shrubs and beautiful trees pepper the landscape here, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a latte or read a favourite book.
Children will enjoy riding the all-ages carousel, whizzing down the newly installed slide, or watching little boats as they sail past the promenade. Afterwards, stroll the Christian Quartbroa footbridge that connects Elveparken to the city’s downtown where you can grab a bite to eat at the Energiverket cafe.

If you’re a birdwatcher, bring your binoculars and enjoy spotting many different species nesting in Baneheia. Make your way to the top of the “Drageknatten” hill and you’ll be rewarded with lovely views of the city and the docks. To reach Baneheia, just hop on a bike for a 10-minute ride from the city centre.
