Donovan House - Washington

Spent a nice weekend in the city with girlfriend and got the most basic package. We were both very impressed with the view we got (I was antipating one NEARLY as great as the one we got.) Room was very clean and very very modern. Well stocked mini-bar, though a bit pricey. Bed was hard (which we both liked) and the pillows were very soft. Hotel staff is very helpful. But, with two exceptions, the restaurant staff was very offputting. The restaurant is separately owned or managed, and so they run at cross-purposes to hotel guest requirements. Simple example, they don't open till 7am....so much for a cup of coffee before that early morning flight. Also, they push you out of the restaurant […] as fast as they can. Rooms are small, no desks, low ceilings, low water pressure in shower. The electronic hotel door key takes 10 tries to unlock the door. They didn't make up my room the second night. Upon arrival and check in to room I was somewhat impressed by the decor. Upon entering the room my impression changed drastically. First off the room was not really cleaned evident by the half empty bottle of water left on the window sill and a T-Shirt left in the couch. All this and the dirtiest rug one would encounter with many unidentifiable stains […] throughout. The room also had a musty odor in it to add to the already negative ambience. After unpacking I went downstairs to discuss all of the above and see if i could get another room. Was told there were none but to check back the next day. Next day was shown another room same size different view but wife felt since it wasnt any better we hunkered down for the next 4 nights. Couldn't wait to leave as if the hotel was nice we planned on staying 2 more nights. Instead went to another hotel that was like going on a dream vacation where cleanliness was of utmost iumportance. One note the front desk personnel were very courteous and professional who clearly customer oriented. Wish the management would have at least responded back to me but never did. Leia mais

Best hotel and such good value. Helpful staff and really attentive to our needs. I would definitely stay here again.

The staff was extremely cheerful, efficient and very proactive. I would definitely recommend this hotel and plan to stay it when i visit DC again.

Was there for one night and was fortunate to have room upgraded at no additional cost. Location was great. We rented bikes to ride around, but hotel is definitely within walking distance to the White House and surrounding memorials/museums. Room was clean; bed & pillows were comfortable. I prefer traditional, bright overhead lights in the room, seemed […] to be more of a trendy lighting design (this was a very minor issue, just thought I would mention it). All the staff I encountered (front desk/parking attendants/housekeeping) were very pleasant & helpful. Great for a short stay, would recommend!! Leia mais

The quality of the staff was superb. Very responsive and willing to please. Hotel itself is modern, artsy design and furnishings. Out of the ordinary, but nice. Not your standard franchise. Unique and fun. Rooftop pool is a nice touch.

Had a great stay at the Donovan House. Just a half mile from the National Mall and close to everything. The first night we had a problem with the showerhead...absolutely no water pressure, so they moved us to a junior suite immediately. Unfortunately the internet service provider was having issues the entire weekend, so they comped the internet fees […] which had already accrued. Service was outstanding. Leia mais

The Donovan House was a great find! It was centrally located and the staff made me feel welcome the moment I walked through the door.

Hotel was nice, but the water pressure was terrible! It was so bad that I would not stay at this hotel again.

Eye catching decor, but when I peel back the onion, the quality does not match the cost. It was a quick thrill not long lived. $40 for guest parking is excessive.

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The staff were friendly and Camille at the front desk was extremely helpful. The hotel is within walking distance of all the tourist attractions in downtown DC and close to a number of restaurants. It is also close to the convention centre. The decor is modern and stylish. The room we had was very comfortable […] with a great view of the city. The only thing which we found disappointing is that the hotel charges for in-room coffee and tea as it is our experience that most four star hotels provide complimentary tea and coffee in the rooms. The hotel concept is very nice, chic, and modern. Some of the rooms are very tightly arranged and does not provide adequate space for guests to relax and enjoy the hotel room. If you do not plan to spend much time in your room this is a good place to stay. I've stayed here several times. Noticed this time that that my room was a little worn scuff marks on closet door, the faucet dripped water from the faucet handle that looked as if the washer in it we're disintegrating leaving black drips. No maintenance issues in past stays.

I was very impressed with the professionalism of the front desk staff, concierge, and the garage attendant. Everyone was also friendly and helpful in answering our questions. I would highly recommend to my friends.

This is a party hotel. I couldn't hear noise from our room, but people were walking (stumbling) around with bottles of JD. Some floor halways smelled like smoke..a lot of smoke. I was there for a bachelorette party, so it fit our needs quite well. It was hard to get to the front desk staff as they were busy entertaining a group of drunk folks trying […] to upgrade their room or something. Turns out one front desk attendant was available to help, she was just busy talking to the drunkies. One of the drunk men noticed there was a line behind him and he moved out of the way. Only then did the front desk attendant acknowledge and offer to check me in. The staff, once I reached them, were kind and curteous..although I observed them struggling with difficult last names (not just mine), which is frustrating. Again, the staff were very kind and eager to please. A friend needed a razor and they provided one, about an hour later. We requested an extra blanket, and they provided an extra comforter and another blanket of nice quality, about an hour later. While slow, the staff are successful with their aims to please. A friend who could not attend the weekend festivities called the hotel to see if they did anything special for bachelorette parties. A bottle of chapmagne was delivered to the room. An expensive bottle of champagne was also charged to the room (the friend did not intend to charge it to the room, and was not made aware we would be charged). Because there are hotels with their service teams more 'down pat' in the area, whose employees don't have to masquerade as dunk-handlers, I probably won't be staying at this hotel again unless it's for another debaucherous party. I think the hotel was more concerned about image than the guest who have paid to stay in the hotel. The hotel was good but just not that fantastic.

I love the decor and commfort at DH, and especially the rooftop pool in the summer. The staff are all extremely professional and smiling...be very aware of parking rules on the streets in the area and their lot is kinda pricey. There are cheaper lots within a short walk...great location! One of my favs.

Nice hotel. Once you occuppied the room they did not vacuum daily. The bathroom got a lick and a promise and that was it. It certainly wasn't kid friendly. The frequent pimps, hookers in the elevators were not inviting. The homeless people lingering and panhandling in front of the hotel were a complete turnoff. Sorry

Sorry, but did not seem like a four star hotel. Very stark, not at all inviting. Desk chair was impossible to work in. Would not recommend for business travel.

Lovely hotel, beautiful rooms and pool deck, a little too much chlorine in the pool, but great night life upstairs! The restaurant service was friendly and attentive - great breakfast buffet choices - and I loved the swinging space chairs in the lobby. Very whimsical. This is a nice hotel that is fairly convenient to the attractions of D.C. In hindsight I would have preferred a hotel closer to the Metro and other transit stations, but cabs worked out well. Our biggest complaint was with the pool. There was a constant influx of non-hotel guests that would come through every night to party at the rooftop hotel. The […] lobby was crowded with younger adults in bathing suits, talking loudly and being disruptive to the quiet lobby. The pool was one of the main reasons we chose this hotel as we were traveling with our three kids. Unfortunately, the pool was definitely not kid friendly with the bar, loud dance music and singles crowd. We were also unaware that the pool was off limits after 6pm for people who had rented it for private parties. I would definitely not have chosen this hotel if I knew this. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. We enjoyed the pool and rooftop bar although a little young for us at the bar. Would have liked a chair in the room.

I travel a lot and this has to be one of the best I have stayed in. The customer care is wonderful, and the rooms are very stylish indeed (I love the shower). Strongly recommend.

Overall I enjoyed this hotel, although there's a few things to consider if you decide to stay here: - Make sure to get a room away from the street. The traffic noise around the circle with the occasional honking woke me up quite rudely in the morning. - The quick checkout using the TV didn't work. - For some reason the shower pressure was dismal during […] my stay. The lady at the front desk mentioned I wasn't the only one affected. Not sure if it's a persistent problem. - Someone else billed his bar tab to my room. While the lady at front desk immediately took the amount off my bill, I wondered about the diligence of the staff allowing this to happen - considering you are required to put your name on the check. when we 1st pulled up to the hotel i never thought that it was the actual hotel due to fact that there was so many differen types of people hanging out in front driving from a distant i thought is was a subway or bus stop.. when we realized that it was the actuall hotel i pulled into the parking lot on side...we where actually afraid to walk in.. there […] were drunk hodlum looking characters we had to walk through to get in... once in the hotel i saw a girl drying her hair with a towel as she was bend over which i thought was weird and another girl at the front arguing with the hotel clerck why he will not let her upstairs and he explained that they are rining the room and no answer and that she could not go up..the girl was loud and was dressed inaporpriate and no shoes on...she finaly got her man friend on the phone and put the clerck on the phone and he told her to go up ... it was my turn to get my room when one of the people hanging in the front of the hotel proceeded to come next to me at the counter and made me very unconfortable to be while i was handing the clerck my card and ID.. he stood next to me till I was done... i took my keys and headed towards the elevator where there was a goup of 10 people whom where already intoxicated and insisted that my sister and i get on the elevator with them we declined they finaly went up and the next elevator that opened where there was a girl so drunk could not hold herself up (did not look like she was older than 20) gagging being held by her friend and a man who was with them laughing and loud! we got on the elevator got into our room locked the door. We got into our room around 2:30 am we where tiered of our long trip getting to DC.... after we got in the room we heard all kinds of noises in the hallways people talking running ... I was honestley so tiered that I could not even pick up the phone... we had to be at a meeting at 8 am so we left the hotel at 7:30 ... not a good experience at all! Leia mais

Best part was the rooftop. Relaxing during the day, fun at night! Romservice was extremely nice as was the concierge who was able to recommend a salon for a last minute appointment.

From the minute I was greeted at the front door until checkout time, the staff was always going the extra mile. The round shower stall was an eclectic touch. The room was spotless, awesome colors and design. Not your average box for a room. Very trendy.!!!

This was the worst experience I've ever had at a hotel, restaurant, and customer service PERIOD! The people that worked there were no help whatsoever, and looked at us like we were trash because we didnt drive a BMW. The hotel room was small, the shower was dirty, and the shower head literally DRIPPED out water when trying to take a shower. We ordered […] room service because when we called to make a reservation for the hotels restaurant, they said they were full because of an outside party of 60. An hour and a half later, our food was cold, the bread was burnt, and it the pork was nothing but fat. For as expensive as this hotel was, i would have expected a little more courtesy, and better food from the restaurant. I will never visit this again. Leia mais
