Stayed two separate times. First room was fine, but bathroom very small. 2nd room also fine but had drainage problems in tub. Hotel owners very pleasant and accomodating, breakfast buffet is very good. Rates are reasonable for area. Would go back.

I've never stayed at a B&B before and I must say, I was impressed. The type of clientel they attract are very personable so I had some great conversations with people as I was alone. The owners were very nice and the service they provided was excellent. Felt more like home than B&B.

We had our folks stay here while in town. This was a good choice, as we could pop in on the way to work to share breakfast with them. The owners are promptly there to let you in and serve - they spend an exhausting amount of time and effort seeing that everyone is taken care of. The room was small but adequate, just as you might expect from a renovated hotel. All the furnishings are new and modern, and the bathroom remained clean. The hotel was just as the reviews claimed. The hotel is clean and well kept. It is old and has small rooms, but the bed was comfortable and the breakfast was excellent. The owners, Pie and Sol, are warm, friendly, intelligent conversationalists and knowledgeable. Oh yes...and good cooks. First off, very nice people run this place. Pie and his wife make it feel like you are staying with family - the doors are locked after 10PM, so you need to ring the door to get back in - so it really is like staying at a hospitable Uncle's house. The rooms are incredibly clean which is great, but they are also very, very small. The TV's are pretty […] bad - their speakers are so messed up it is a chore to try and enjoy it. The breakfasts are good with lots of fruit choices. The rooms don't have a mini fridge which is also kind of disappointing. Beds were also a little hard. All in all, I think you are getting what you pay for. Nice location, convienent to the freeways. We would definitely return for the location, the food, the people who run it, and the price. We can't recommend El Primero enough. It's a great place to stay, a fantastic deal, the owners are the nicest people in the world and Chula Vista is a great place.

El Primero was a great find, the only problem was that we weren't able to stay longer. We had to leave early in the morning to do a charity trip in Mexico, but Sol was up early than normal to fix a deliciously wonderful breakfast spread for us. After reading the reviews of the El Primero Bed & Breakfast I was so excited to book our stay. I should have done more research because this ended up being like a college dorm. The hotel is on a main street and we woke up to revving engines at 7am on Sunday morning. Apparently there was a car show that we were unaware of. This was not for us at all! […] Also, before I booked our stay I made a personal phone call to ask about the breakfast. I was assured that this was "the best breakfast in SD County." This is so far from the truth. The breakfast consisted of cold quiche, plain sliced bread and random fruit. This was neither appealing nor filling. I would not recommend staying here, the water was not very warm and the bed squeaked every time you moved. Just pay the extra money to stay at a chain hotel in SD so you can be comfortable. I was very happy with my stay at the El Primero Boutique Bed & Breakfast Hotel. The room was very clean and the hotel was very quiet at night. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast every morning was excellent. I will look forward to my next stay at the El Primero Bed & Breakfast Hotel.

the hotel was small but I loved that. The breakfast exceeded our expectations and the Owners were absolutely wonderful. The other patrons were very nice.Will stay there again next time in California.

Get ready, this is a long review, but worth your time. You've found a terrific place to stay! The El Primero is wonderful. Owners Pie and Sol are attentive, friendly, but not pushy. I stayed there for seven nights and left feeling like part of their family. The breakfasts are bountiful. Each morning a buffet is prepared with a wide selection of delicious, […] fresh fruits; sausage (link and patty), bacon and mini-quiches; bagels, English muffins, toaster waffles and fresh banana nut bread; several types of dry cereals; delicious coffee and tea. Needless to say, I gained a few pounds while I was there! Adjacent to the breakfast area is a large courtyard with lots of trees and plants. It's hidden from street view by large panels of obscured glass, so there's lots of privacy. There are sofas and comfortable chairs in the courtyard for reading or relaxing in the sun. Our room was clean and well-appointed. A very nice selection of welcoming items was placed on our desk...nice little touches that make it feel even more like they care about their guests. Our room, the Cardiff by the Sea, was a bit on the small side for two people. They do have other rooms with King beds that were larger, and Pie offered to move us to one, but we were fine with what we had. If a huge room isn't that important to you, you'll be fine with the Cardiff. There are 20 rooms in total, all with names relating to the surrounding area. The hallways are lined with historic photos of these places, and it's a treat just to look at those! Our room had its own bathroom, phone, and television. The air conditioner worked very well and kept the San Diego humidity at bay. The carpet was clean, as were the bed linens and comforter. The blanket on the bed was made of the softest material I've ever felt. The bed was comfortable, not quite a pillowtop, but considerably better than that found in most other B&Bs. We booked this room because we wanted to stay near the Cricket Amphitheater but not too close where the traffic to the event would drive us nuts. So we decided to stay at El Primero because we love old architecture and we had read the previous reviews on this hotel. It was all true. The owners of the hotel serve the breakfast in the morning and they […] are such warm people, they really get to know their guests. They make you feel at home. We will definitely love to return to this hotel for another little romantic get away. My only word of warning to you is that the beds are a little squeaky and the walls are a little thin, so we won't book the room closest to the lobby next time! ;) Leia mais

We were very happy with our accomodations at El Primero. Only wish that our card key would have opened the front door, ringing the bell and calling the manager seemed awkward.

After looking at several hotels on hotels.com we decided to try the bed and breakfast category which led us to the El Primero Boutique Bed and Breakfast. We stayed three nights and were very pleased with the clean, updated rooms and friendly inn keepers--Pie and Sol. The breakfasts were also great: fresh bananna bread, assorted fresh fruits, juice, […] coffee. We were also very pleased with how easy it was to get to places: San Diego, beaches, La Jolla, were all just a short drive on the freeway. There are also several restaurants close by. Far exceeded our expectations. Met wonderful people at breakfast - a real breakfast - not stale danish and kiddie cereal. The owner was fascinating to talk with and he and his wife have done a remarkable job restoring this fine old hotel. The bed was probably the most comfortable one I have ever slept in at a hotel.
