We stayed at this hotel five years ago and found it to be a wonderful experience at a great location, and reasonable price. I upgraded our reservations to a superior room this time, and found the room to be much smaller and a bit more "worn" than our last visit. I understand the hotel has done some renovation and now has a special new section that obviously rate one step above "superior". A bit disappointed since our last visit, although front desk was most helpful and good breakfast buffet included with large selection of items.

We stayed in the hotel from the 21st to 25th September 2009. From checking in we were made most welcome by the staff who were more than willing to answer any questions regarding how to get to destinations in the city. The breakfast was excelent with a choice of hot and cold food. The prices in the hotel bar were also cheaper than the surrounding cafeterias. I would recomend this hotel to anyone who is thinking of going to Milan

Clean nice hotel (I stayed in the "new" building opposite the reception). Breakfast is excellent. Location - OK, but depends on the purpose of the trip. One area they could improve on - individual air conditioning: it is supposed to be individually set, but in reality you have to call reception to set it for you via their computer.

In Milan for a long weekend. Hotel was 5 minutes walk from central station where we were dropped off. Metro station just a couple of minutes from hotel door. Reception staff could not have been more helpful or pleasant. Dining room staff were very pleasant. Overall this is an excellent base for a stay in Milan. Will definitely recommend it to friends and family and I will stay there if I visit the lovely city again. Thank you Hotel Berna.

We booked this hotel at the last minute and, being a three minute walk from Milan Central train station, we not sure what to expect. Upon arrival we were greeted by a friendly and professional staff and provided an upgrade to a larger room. The premium room was large, clean and very comfortable. The morning breakfast was wonderful - the best we had on our trip through Italy. About the only negative is that the street was a little noisy but that's to be expected in a downtown hotel. Close the window and crank the AC if it bothers you.

We had two stays at Hotel Bernina, first for 3 nights, then 3 weeks later, for two nights. Each time we were impressed with the high level of courtesy and service from staff. On our second stay we were greet with a friendly "Welcome back" when we walked into reception. Our room was spotlessly clean, although the first was a little tired looking, and the bathroom in need of a little "facelift". However these were minor issues in view of the what we felt was a great deal. Breakfast is worth staying for. Contrary to what we have experienced in most European hotels of that standard, we were given a wide choice of foods, buffet style, each morning. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble for the staff. We really enjoyed our experience at Hotel Bernina and would definitely stay again if we return to Milan in the future,

This hotel came across pretty much like the previous reviews-- nicely kept, good staff, and excellent location, if you're coming in via Milano Cenrale rail station. It's literally a 5 minute walk away, just down the block from the McDonald's (southeast of the stazione). We were basically only there for the evening, in transit from Lake Como, due to fly out of Linate the next day. There was an asian market across the street, and a couple restaurants in the vicinity, one pizza place which seemed popular enough. Our hotel desk clerk, however, suggested we walk 15-20' to the Mediterranea Brassierie for dinner, and this took us through more deserted neighborhoods, which made my wife feel a little uncomfortable. The restaurant itself, however, was very good and also fairly popular with middle-to-upscale clientale. I guess these folks either walked, too, or taxi'ed or drove themselves. We chose to walk more busy main streets on our way back, which made a slightly longer walk, but a little more enjoyable. Hotel Berna's breakfast buffet was very, very good-- the best we had in Italy, considering that we stayed mainly at 3 star hotels. The usual eggs, meat, etc., but also lots of fresh fruit, pastries, and, curiously, desserts like panna cotta and tirumisu?! Because we "were hotels.com" customers, we were given two free 30min passes for WiFi access to the internet, which was all we really needed to check email and do our online check-in's for the airport. Not sure if that meant we would have gotten more-- or fewer-- minutes if we booked another way. We'd probably stay here again.

Travelled as a couple and we found the hotel excellent. Staff were very friendly and organised tickets to the San Siro for us. The rooms are very clean and cool (important in Italian summers) The only shortcoming was that the rooms were smaller than we expected when looking at the sight. Although the location is right beside the main train/metro station, the street outside the hotel is frequented by ladies of the night throughout the day! However, as this hotel is much cheaper than many of its equivalents the staff, clean rooms and tremendous buffet breakfast make up for the small pointers above.

The location of this hotel is prefect, it is about 5 mintues walk away from the Central Station and underground. Also the main street for local shopping is only half a mile away (not the top end shops). Staff are ever so helpful. Breakfast is brilliant, there are so many choices and it serve until 11am so you don't have to spend another 50 euros for lunch! We stayed in the superior room, the Non-alcoholic open bar and coffee bar is ONLY included if you book direct via their website, so we got stung for a bottle of water and 2 cans of soft drinks for 22 euros. The room itself is very dated, it looks like a B&B back in the 70s, it is very clean but the aircon was not working properly. The control will only go down to 27C, outside temp was 30C so I would not say it is fully aircon. My advice is to stay somewhere during the summer, the room gets very hot! I think this hotel is ok after all (if you book it with discount, i.e. stay 3 night and get 1 night free), will not pay full price for it tho.

We stayed here twice in the same month for a total of 9 nights. This hotel is very convenient to the Central Station and all public transport. The staff were excellent and most pleasant. They recommended local restaurants and checked travel schedules. Our room was most comfortable and everything worked! There was coffee and tea making supplies, complete with cookies, and a free non-alcoholic minibar in the room. These were restocked daily. The buffet breakfast which was included in the price was probably the best that I have encountered in Europe.

Only 2 minutes to the metro station for Milans excellent transport system 3 Euro for a day ticket. The only downside was the " ladies of the night " walking from the station to the hotel, this however metioned in most guidebooks.

We stayed in the Hotel Berna for one night just before leaving Italy for home, primarily because of it's close proximity to the Milan Central Train Station. The room was comfortable, and the air conditioning was great after the heat of the day. The room was clean and well appointed. The bathroom was a bit small, but not really a problem. Good wireless internet connection. The breakfast buffet was wonderful! The best we had at any of our lodgings in Italy. My only complaint was that the taxis at the train station would not take us to the hotel, because it was too close! This would not normally be a problem, but my wife had injured her foot earlier in the trip and a quarter mile pulling luggage along was slow and difficult.

The staff are all extremely efficient, helpful and welcoming. Rooms are clean and well appointed. The beds were firm and comfortable. Bathroom - shower only - fine. One of our group left concert tickets behind in the UK and the staff went out of their way to assist with faxed copies etc - thanks. Free minibar. Complimentary snacks were presented in the bar area in the evening - almost a main meal! Breakfast plentiful with large choice - excellent. Only minor downside was a bit of noise from the noisy voice prompts in the lifts and running water from the waste pipes during the night . Try and avoid rooms near the lifts ( Rm 26!). The good surprises started from the very moment we stepped inside the hotel - our Superior room was upgraded to Executive (upon availability). A basket of fresh, juicy, red apples was greeting the guests in the lobby and believe me these are very welcome after a flight or a long day of sightseeing with a kid. We were escorted to our room in the Tower part of the hotel by a very professional piccolo. The access to this section of the hotel is with the magnetic card for the room, so only guests could enter the premises. Extremely safe, clean and classy! And another basket of apples awaiting for us in the lobby The mini-bar in the room was offered for free for the whole duration of our stay and was reloaded on a daily basis. It included two cans of coca cola - regular and light, plus two more types of soda drinks; two bottles of water; small pear / peach juice; crackers and biscuits; instant coffee and tea bags and more crackers ;-) My daughter adored the mini-bar! And when we arrived there was a very kind note by the room-maid with her name in case we had any requests and two complimentary packs of biscuits to greet us! The breakfast is everything the hotel promises – fresh natural juices (orange, grapefruit and carrots – made instantly right there in front of you), espresso and cappuccino prepared for free upon request, otherwise there is the regular filter coffee/hot chocolate/tea, but you must try the espresso, served in these little cute porcelain cups with a “lid” to keep it warm, since it is ristretto/short. Cheese/prosciutto/bacon/eggs/veggies/cereals/a large array of pastries and delicious croissants with chocolate are just to name the basics. So if you are still hesitant, for whatever reason, to book this hotel, just go for it! I spent there 5 unforgettable days with my daughter and there isn’t anything I can think of that went the wrong way… When I was almost desperate with my camera flash memoty being completely full and having Florence ahead of me, I dis

This hotel is in the Top 5 hotels in Milan and I can see why. Five minutes from Stazione Centrale, the hotel doesn't look much from the outside but step inside and it all changes. The reception area is warm and friendly with helpful staff. The rooms are a good size, very clean, nicely decorated, beds big and comfortable. The bathroom was tiled, spotless with fresh, clean towels, plenty of hot water and a powerful shower. The minibar with free juices and waters was a nice touch. I'm a light sleeper but didn't hear anything from the hall or rooms around me. The lobby in the hotel has free tea, coffee, water and biscuits 24 hours a day which is lovely when you've been walking around the city all day. Now the breakfast, where do I start? Outstanding! Fruit, cereals, breads, pastries, jams and marmalades, omelette, hams, sausages, quiche, potatoes, carrots and much more with juice, tea, coffee or chocolate all in unlimited amounts. Probably the best i've seen! There are a few "ladies of the night" standing around nearby but they don't approach you and are not dressed in a manner that might have children asking questions! I can't rate this hotel highly enough and when I next return to Milan I will look forward to staying in this hotel.

Positive: Everything is great in the hotel if you pay for a superior room that will give you access to a blue building just across the street. Here you will enjoy of non-smoking rooms and everything in the room is intended to make your stay enjoyable. In short, you can expect all the small details that matter in a European four star hotel. Breakfast is also abundant and varied. The selection of pastries was particularly impressive. Negative: Three things. The neighborhood is a little bit sketchy, but not unsafe. Being close to the railroad station will expose you to watching the kind of crowd that hangs out close to these stations. But you shouldn't be worried about security. The hotel has very tight security controls with cameras and special keys. The area also seems to be very well patrolled by the Italian policy and the army. The second negative aspect is the thickness of the walls. If you have noisy neighbors, you will definitely hear them. The third is internet access. If you bring your laptop, they will only give you free access to internet for an hour and they'll try to sell you a day pass for 24 hours afterwards. However, in the door of my room I found the rights of guests according to type of fare. I was in the hotel in a "superior" category and apparently this entitled me to the free wireless internet without paying, other guests with cheaper rates didn't have this privilege and they were required to pay. So it is a little bit tricky at the reception, since they charge everyone for the internet, while it is clear from hotel policy that not everyone should be charged.
