"EDC weekend at the Gold Spike (:"
I enjoyed my stay at the gold spike, it was conveniently located close to the speedway for my EDC weekend. The staff was great, the hotel restaurant was cheaply priced with good food and a friendly staff. The room was okay for the price, the bathroom was very very small, the floors in the room were dirty and the room was lacking a fridge which would […] have been nice but for the price it was acceptable. "More value for the price"
I got ticket on sale, and the hotel rooms worth more than price. For the bus stop was so close, my family took a bus and travel around the city.
"Wedding trip"
While it is a small hotel the service is great, location works well for a downtown wedding , Food is ok and we all had a good time in the pool
The 24hour Prime Rib special was a bonus!
"GoldSpike"
COULD NOOOOOOTTT FIND PARKING! Internet pictures were deceiving! But we still had fun kuz I was with my Awesome husband! Bed was a little hard, internet says there is a hairdryer but we found out there wasnt really when we got there. :( Grass was FAKE. But it was still FUN!!! Totally Recommend :D We chose this one because it was the cheapest. I would […] say it was worth the price, but nothing more. The outside looks terrible, the room itself wasn't bad other than the bed could have been softer. Leia mais
"fine little hideaway"
Make sure you request a Poolside room. you do not want to be in the tower..... Casino is small, but fun and the bar is nice. The grill is adequate. sportsbook onsite, blackjack, slots...sketchy neighborhood, but one block from Fremont and the other big hotels.
"Clean but some bright"
This hotel is good and rather than cheap. But It's too far with main strip.
"Had to clean the grimy tub myself"
The room was right off Fremont St which was convenient and had the only free parking within the area that I knew of. The room itself seemed clean, except the tub had dirt and grime all over it, and when I called for someone to come clean it I was ignored. I had to get a towel and handsoap and scrub it myself. It made me wonder how clean everything else […] in the room really was. Leia mais
Decent no frills at all. Decent pool, just located in an undesirable neighborhood.
"Great Hotel"
if you're looking for the Vegas Experience, while also not wanting to worry about all the tourists, this is the place to go for sure! Good food, good location, friendly places, etc.

"Gold Spike - Small, nice and a block from Freemont"
Great place to stay in Vegas if you don't care about the strip but want to be close to Freemont. Decent pool and a small hotel but the rooms were all newly remodeled. Definitely a place to stay for the deal but wouldn't reccomend it for your first Vegas trip (go on the strip and live it up!!!)
"Cheap, clean, safe, and accessible to The Strip"
This is a very sincere and honest review of this hotel. So it's not near the big casinos, but you can walk a block away, get a day pass on the Deuce bus and take that to the other casinos. (The bus goes slow. About 1/2 - 45 mins. to reach Mandalay Bay Casino, but it gives a great view and is air conditioned). The hotels offer free head-in parking, free […] wi-fi internet, and super clean and modern bedrooms and bathrooms. Shower water can be regulated easily too. Hot water available. There is an elevator to access rooms. The non-smoking room didn't smell like smoke, and I believe we where on a whole non-smoking floor. It has a decent size pool, with private guest entrance, offering pool towels, and pool reclining chairs. There is part of the pool for little kids also. The casino is a bit smokey (as expected) and the people that gamble in the casino don't look like they earn a lot in their work. The casino girl dealers wear skimpy outfits and are very young (mid to late twenties), but if you just want a cheap, clean, and close to the main attractions, this casino is the place to stay. Elevator works fine too. There is one treadmill and one exercise bike on the 2nd floor. We stayed at the second floor and it was clean and quite. Free wi-fi internet access was great too The rooms are pretty - decorated with bright art deco modern colors (aqua-green, white, dark brown). The beds are comfortable too. The neighborhood is very quiet and safe, but do stick to main strip street for walking and the street where the hotel area is. Take the Deuce bus up to the more populated area and then walk. The hotel is like two blocks from the whole Fremont Street experience too. I will definitely stay here again and again. Leia mais
"Not too bad"
The room was clean with everything operational. It was a block from Fremont street so there was no noise from the bands there. Small parking lot so get there early. The casino was very small and nearly empty. The restaurant had $5.99 prime rib dinner but it was the worst I ever had. Eat some where else.

nice room... friendly area... supper cheap $ luv it.... will book again....
"very convenient"
Clean and cheap, a little of noise in rooms and parking lot could be better.
"DUMP"
The only good things I can say about this hotel was the convenient location and their clean rooms. I felt like the walls were made of cardboard (felt and heard EVERYTHING). The windows let in tons of light so we could not sleep in. The beds were as hard as rocks. Overall a pretty poor experience.
"Gold Spike---Silver Price"
This hotel met and exceeded all of our expectations. It was clean, "cool looking," and located in a cool area. We got it cheap on a special, so we couldnt lose. Nice TV. Cold pool, though.
"good for price"
we were leary when we drove up to the gold spike, once inside, we felt a little better, once we got to our room, we were very pleasantly surpirsed. The rooms are modern and clean! Good deal for the price.
"The most awful hotel I've ever stayed"
DON'T STAY HERE! DON'T STAY HERE! IT WAS THE MOST HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE I'VE EVER HAD AT A HOTEL. I read the reviews and was all excited to stay in downtown vegas. I travel alot and I have never had a worst stay. The door to the room doesn't lock. The elevator in the morning didn't work and we were trapped on our floor. The air conditioner (in summer) […] didn't work. And the best part is when any of this happened the staff didn't care at all and had an attitude like 'too bad, nothing we can do'. And here's the topper. THE POWER WENT OUT IN THE ENTIRE CASINO AND HOTEL AND LEFT US IN THE DARK. People were yelling in their rooms, freaking out in the dead of night. Some people were trapped outside and couldn't get in. Again, the attitude of the staff was 'well power goes out sometimes, nothing we can do'. I could add on the crack heads that come into the lobby and there's no security. There's no ice machine, you have to come down to the one bar in the casino and get ice from the bar. It was the most awful terrifying experience I've ever had. Leia mais
"Great Place"
I was only in Vegas for a day and a half and decided to stay down toward Freemont Street and not up at the strip. I was looking for a cheap room and the Gold Spike came up and i wasn't concerned about the how it would've looked. When I walked in I was pleasantly surprised. The place was very clean with new slot and poker machines. They only have four […] tables for gambling but they have blackjack and I love blackjack. The best part was they have what is called sexy Blackjack. The dealers are attractive females who dress up in sexy little outfits or costumes. I found that a big draw at first but the dealers were very cool as well easy to talk wanted you to have a good time, always smiling. I definitely recommend it for a place to stay if you want to get away from the strip and experience a little old school Vegas. I will be back! Leia mais

"Wonderful Stay at the Gold Spike"
We had a wonderful stay! The staff was so nice and helpful. The hotel is just a block from the Fremont experience so we got the fun with out the noise. We look forward to staying there next year.
"Old town..."
If you are a fan of the old town Vegas then this might work for you. If you like the having the restaurant, grill, bar, hotel registration and gaming tables within 20 feet of each other then this would also work for you. I had very mixed feelings when we first arrived. The location of the hotel was very difficult. I had to call for better directions. […] Once I finally found the hotel finding parking was just as difficult. There are two very old fashioned ground level parking lots not made for suv's or trucks. There are a lot of scary people walking around from time to time but you have to understand with Gold Spikes location it's to be expected. Walking into it wasn't much better. You have to pass through what they consider the gaming area which can take you all of 10 seconds. The security guard was very nice in helping us locate which corner to go to, to check in. We were welcomed well enough. I had 2 rooms on reservations since I was traveling with my parents and my children. As long as your room is located inside the building you may feel a little safer. This is where the mixed feelings come in. Although I didn't feel safe coming into the building and so far I wasn't impressed with the magnitude of anything I had scene, I must say that the rooms are basically what is pictured. The establishment is old but they try. I could tell that they had recently tried to remodel with a unique thought process...The halls had recently been done as well. There was enough cleanliness of the hotel. Beds were a little hard. Each room does have a flatscreen and there is cable. No ice machine, have to go to the bar for ice. Prices in the cafe seem reasonable. Not sure i'd stay there again with the children but my parents loved it for the quaintness of it. Saying that they love the old Vegas and that felt fine to them. It is located within a block of Fremont Street which in the evening is a nice venue to go to....So not a bad place but yet not a definite again either. Leia mais
"The Gold Spike"
A great value. Very comfortable bed.
"parking trouble"
my car kept getting hit in the parking lot on the northwest side of the hotel. it was minor bumps i still don't want my car get hit period.
"room 324"
no ice machine at all go to the bar and ask a busy bartender to get you some ice. trash cans outside room 224 window get emptied at 5 am on sat you will be rrudely woken up . you look outside the window and kitchen staff are standing outside smoking and itching themselves in places you dont want to see . night shift desk help very rude
"So so for the money"
Tried to stay on the Vegas Strip but everything was tripled in price because Lady Gaga was in town. Found a room here for dirt cheap. Area is a little "shady" but it's only 2 blocks from Fremont Street so just walked to the Fremont St. Experience. Room was clean but smelled really bad, stale smoke, even though we asked for non-smoking. They only had […] a king sized bed for 3 of us. Said they were complely booked and didn't have roll aways. Ate at the Golden Grill. Decent food and low price. Service was excellent! Leia mais
"The Gold Spike Hike"
First of all, there is a special place in my heart for the Gold Spike. All of the 'special' things about it make it good in a funny way. I am somewhat joking of course, the 'special things' include: No ice machine, you have to go to the bar. No elevator in the pool building, well actually there is, but it doesn't work. Sexy blackjack is really funny […] - actually a little scary, we stayed away from these girls who clearly couldn't make it on the strip. The pool building is funny too because it has an old Travel Inn sign that is just turned off. With all the funniness aside, it was very clean. The biggest problem is that walking the block to get to Fremont street can be scary at night. Especially going on 4th street. If you are planning on spending a lot of time on the strip, then the bus or taxi will cost you ~15-30$ a day to get back and forth. I would just pay the extra money to stay closer. But if you want to stay in downtown, this is a cheap option, good value. Leia mais
"Gold Spike Spring 2011"
Room stuffy but clean. Loud buzzing fan in bathroom. Rather low water pressure. The place was definitely low-end but NOT "rundown" and it seemed to be improving from the last time I stayed here a few years ago. Staff courteous and efficient.

"Gold Spike Casino"
Small renovated casino close to freemont. Nice restaurant inside. Friendly staff. Just make sure to get non-smoking rooms.
"Burns stay at The Gold Spike"
The hotel was in a very good location and getting to Freemont Street was just a block away. Many times I stay at the much bigger hotel, but tried the smaller one and was glad I did. There was no wait on the elevators; the room was always clean. Everyone I came in contact was very personal including security. I had a chance to have a bite to eat at the […] grill. The food was good and reasonable. The waitress was very professional and seem to really enjoy their jobs. Next time while in Vegas there may be a reason to stay at the Gokd Spike again. Leia mais
"Beware Room 214"
I was given Room 214 and when I came back to the room to go to sleep, I discovered the elevator shaft was on the other side of what must be very thin hotel walls. It was nearly impossible to sleep as you could hear the very loud sounds of the two elevators going up and down all night. And it sounds like the elevator cables could use a couple of gallons […] of WD 40. On the other side of me, I could clearly hear the couple enjoying what obviously was very passionate and satisfying activities through the paper thin walls. The next evening, I mentioned this to the nice reception girl on the night shift. She immediately offered me Room 316, but it was late and I was too tired to pack up and move -- especially since she stated that 316 would be blocked for me and I could move the first thing in the morning. The next morning I went down and the guy at the front desk tells me that the room is not ready. I questioned that this sounded strange since it was ready six hours before. But he suggested I go have breakfast and come back in an hour and switch rooms. An hour later I came back and he told me the room was still not ready and told me to come back at Noon. This was become extremely aggravating -- especially when I came back at Noon and was told the room was still not ready and I would have to check back after lunch. So I went and had lunch (the hotel has a very nice Cafe by the way and hostess/waitress Maria is an angel!). After lunch, the guy told me the room was still not ready and I asked to see the Manager. So the Manager comes out and proceeds to tell me there are not any available rooms ! Even when I pressed him about the room that had been blocked off for me the night before and the room that the guy at the front desk told me 5 different times to come back for. The Manager insisted there was no record or note of a room change for me and callously stated I could stay in my room or check out. That night I spoke with the night person who had made the arrange Leia mais
It's an older hotel but comfortable, location for downtown is good. Parking is a bit of a problem but valet worked good.
"good value for money"
We stayed here as we wanted to come in to the downtown area for one of our two nights in las vegas - we received excellent value for our money by staying here - the hotel seems newly refurbished - we had no complaints at all.
"great stay"
was very happy with everything for three guys, but if i had brought my wife she would have been disappointed, there wasnt any cabinet for cloths, and bathroom had no counter to put anything. would stay again as long as my wife doesnt come. also steak and eggs and cafe were excellent.

"Rude Awakening"
We paid for a one week stay at this Hotel (seven nights) . On the 5th night we recived a rude phone call to the room demanding that we leave the room because we had no reservation for that night. Shocked we explain that it as paid for but they still made us pack our bags, and leave the room. After waiting in the lobby they descovered that we indeed […] had that reservation for another two nights and they re-issued the room key and let us go back to bed. No appologies or comps and when the office admin from our company called to speak wih a manager her call was never returned, the manager wasnt there the multiple times she called and serveral calls to the Hotel were never answered. On top of all of that the $100.00 "refundable deposit" that we were surprised by at check in was never refunded! Never stay here if you dont wan to be kiced out of you room in the middle of the night with no accountability. Leia mais
"Great Value for Adults"
This hotel was pruchased and turned into a boutique hotel. Well with the economy they had to sell it. Unfortunatly they sold it to a company who operates monthly/weekly retals. Overall the hotel is great. Great value, grat location (downtown), great food, great pool, rooms are very comfortable. You do however run into quite a bit of people down on thier […] luck coming to get thier free dinner from the weekly/monthly rentals. No one lives in this hotel wich is nice. Leia mais
"GOLDSPIKE!"
Convient to Downtown/Freemont St. My only complaint is the heater/AC unit, which rather than runing constantly, turns on and off to maintain the room tempature and is very loud. Still, I'd go back, it's a bargan at 20 - 30 bux a nite.
its away from the strip but is whithin reach of evreything
"OK if nothing else is available"
The first thing noticed was the old look. The worst thing was the smell. The halls and the room smelled like pest control and was very unpleasant. The bed was comfortable but the bath room could definately use an upgrade. People were nice.

"I'd rather stay in an RV hotel!"
The hotel itself is very nice... However, we did notice that the walls are very thin and you could hear EVERTHING! Also, Our room was behind one of the neon lights and the blinds we had did not protect against that light coming into our room. Alost the beds were hard as a rock! Last but not least, the Sunday morning we went to check out we noticed that […] there were two holes in the back window of my car. The hotel was not very helpful in this situation and still two weeks later have not gotten back to me with the 'security camera' footage. I most likely will never stay there again. Other than the security team, the front desk girls were very nice. Leia mais
"Tiny Casino - Good Price - Nice Diner"
The casino is tiny -- just a single pit with four tables where few patrons play. The place has a small sports book and a bar where you can watch the games while having a beer. The location of the hotel and casino is one block north of the Fremont Street Experience, so it's very close by, though because there's nothing around the hotel worth seeing, […] it feels like you're in a whole different neighborhood. The rates at the hotel made it worth it for me. The price was right, and they charge a resort fee of $7.95 that includes wireless internet access. Since internet access is something I want and other hotels charge more for internet access, I was fine with paying it. I stayed two nights, and the first night the internet was very slow, but the second day it was fine. I didn't gamble at the hotel at all other than placing a sports bet. I think the best thing about the hotel might be the diner where you can get a prime rib dinner for $5.99. It's not the best meat you've ever had, but it's a good portion and you can't beat the price. The staff at the diner are a hoot -- very friendly, talkative, joking people who seem to like their jobs and are good at it. The hotel rooms are adequate. The beds aren't the most comfortable, but I had no problems falling asleep. The room was clean. All in all, I would stay here again for the right price, though I'd be far more likely to do so if I'm in town on my own. Leia mais
"Great Location"
This hotel is in a great location!! You can cruise on up to the strip or you can hang out on Fremont street. You can also hop on the freeway and go anywhere as well. This hotel is small and you get more one on one interaction with the employees. The employees were friendly and they were always willing to help!! We go to vegas like 2-3 times a year and […] we will always stay at Goldspike. It is cheap but clean and updated and it is not over bearing like the bigger plaves in vegas. We recommend this hotel hands down to any of the other less expensive hotels!!! Leia mais
